Is there any talk about Broberg being at camp? Was he doing so well that scouts actually thought he's ready to contribute to the team's defense? If anyone has any info I'd love to hear it. Oilers News and Rumors @oilersaccess · Jul 11 Ken Holland says that there are no immediate plans to replace Mike Green on the roster ahead of training camp. Philip Broberg will also head back to Sweden after training camp to attend Skelleftea's training camp ahead of the SHL season. #LetsGoOilers Thanks Fog. It makes more sense that he's here for the experience. I've got too many projects on the go or I would have responded sooner.

yep keeping fingers crossed, but still surprised teams weren't scheduled to go into bubble 2 weeks prior to games starting ie right about now. Lots can happen in next 2 weeks but I can tell you the wife sure isnt looking forward to 15hrs a day of hockey on TV:-). Stocking up the beer fridge has now commenced and countdown has started: T minus 13 (to warm up game) and counting

We have always had some weird mojo against the Hawks. No matter how good they were, or how bad we were, they've always been competitive games. Considering the Hawks record, the Oilers have got more than their share of points against them over the years. I think this series is gonna be close, but I like our chances.

I was actually wondering when the first discussion would turn sour and we wouldn't be quite so polite with each other. It's all in good fun and we have discovered that we actually miss the debates and more so the posters that make those discussions interesting.

Broberg impressing at training camp. I'd really hope he can stay in the bubble. It's just about his defense at the NHL level. Quote taken from Edmonton Journal

Nurse is turning into a physical beast, Bear has surpassed expectations and is looking to be a very good offensive D.....a steal at where we drafted him. Bouchard is developing very well and has offensive talents that could one day make him an elite D, Jones is turning into a very good steady D and now Broberg is turning heads at his potential to one day become a very good top 4 or maybe even a top 1 - 2 D. I can't think of his name but there was an article just a few days ago I commented on about an Oiler D prospect who was looking very good himself. I love the turnaround. It was just a couple of years ago our D was less than adequate(putting it politely).

Nice try Fog, but I actually see both sides of that argument. While I used to be bothered by the whole affair now I look at it as an interesting storyline for an Oiler fan favorite who really was at heart a true blue Oiler. He tested the waters like so many veterans do and padded his nest egg for retirement. I just couldn't stay mad at Smyth.

That's simply amazing that he's developing that good so soon! Jumping Bouchard on the depth chart is very impressive. Hopefully it is motivational fuel for Bouchard to up his game and have two rookies emerge from camp ready to join the team. If this can continue we could end up with one of the best and youngest defenses in the league! For all the time I complained that we needed to upgrade our D, well it looks like I'm starting to get my wishes coming true.

Broberg is going to be an absolute beast in the NHL. Book it. That's what I've been saying. This camp so far is proving my point. People were worried that because he chose Sweden over the AHL that he would become another European player that doesn't come play for the NHL.

I'm just throwing this out there because of a comment Tippett made about Broberg. Tippett said something like "he could play left D, right D, left wing, right wing or center, he looks like a player."
Does anyone think it's possible that there could be some merit in trying Broberg as a left wing, more specifically McDavid's left wing? You know, the position that seems no one is able to fill. Could Broberg be so talented that he could make the transition and actually be successful. A few coaches have done this over the years and had success. I'm not saying this is or should be the case with Broberg. It's just that I have a very healthy imagination and once an intriguing idea pops in it is hard to shake.
Also now that my mind is going down that path, could AA be turned into a Dman since he doesn't seem to be able to be a good fit on any of the lines?
Anyway I'm just throwing it out there, after all this is a discussion forum.
