They say Benson is slow and is a great passer. I know Neil is slow and a good goal scorer. Hmm, maybe 3rd line can also pop in a few with Hass or Sheahan providing the defensive speed. I remember when Draisaitl was called slow and a bad skater... lol.

Screw it, put Benson right there with Connor for a game, or he might be ready. I don't know what Woodcroft is doing down there but man have our callups been decent. I agree we should try Benson before saying he can't play on this or that line. They say he is very smart and a good passer and I see he has some goals, so it's not like he can't score if given the chance. Who knows maybe he and Conner gel like Nuge, Drai and Yam. It probably is hoping for too much but until we try it in a game we don't really know. By my reckoning they have 3 practices to figure where he's at in terms of best fit. The way the weekend shook down, the management and coaching is looking pretty smart atm. I'm guessing they'll shelter him a bit on 3-4th may be try him on 2nd pp if that works in practice? What limited times ive seen video of him he's right up with the best we have in terms of vision and passing. If he could figure out how to dig the puck out and send it up to McD on stride? oh Boy!! but that's getting a tad ahead of myself

According to Jack Michaels, while the Oil are practicing in Arizona today Benson is rotating in with Khaira-Sheahan-P.Russell. The other lines and D-pairings remain the same. Also, James Neal is not on the ice.

Nothing against Archie or Neal, but neither has been a particularly good fit with McDavid. I'm not convinced Benson's skill-set is particularly suited for the job, but I'd give him a try-out there. Subplot, it lets Archie get back with Sheahan which seemed like a successful "fit" as well.

He's pegged to be a top 6 for sure but he has to prove he can play defence on the 3-4th lines, before given an opp with McD IMO. Hope he makes it difficult soon!

I certainly understand your logic, but if you remember McDavid and Draisaitl together were giving up as much as they were scoring. They were both minus players at times when we were losing. Trying Benson on the top line to see if there is some chemistry does not need to be a deal breaker just an experiment for a few shifts. If it works, it pays bigtime.

I think circumstances? Before Yammo came up we had 1.5 effective lines, he made it 2.0. I dont' think they want to mess too much with the top 2 effective lines ATM and it seems judging by the line up tonight they are hesitant to mess with anything ATM.

After tonight I'd be shocked if Benson doesn't get a start and if I was DT, My post game speech would be "If anyone here doesn't want to give 100% every night, we have plenty of guys in the A that will beg for an opportunity to do so!"

Nygard out 6-8 weeks after surgery for a broken hand. Wishing him a speedy full recovery.
Would be great to have him back for depth in the playoffs.
