Discuss trade options to fill needs, and any other rumors or transactions
from mynhltraderumors.com
Benning could be the odd man out in Edmonton
Allan Mitchell of The Athletic: The Edmonton Oilers have too many defensemen and GM Ken Holland could look at moving one or more of them.
Matt Benning could be the odd man out with his preseason struggles and a group of young right-handed defensemen lurking.
Benning will be an RFA after the season and comes in at $1.9 million this season.
Could they move Benning for a third-line center? He might end of being a trade deadline rental.
IMO we could use a 3rd line center for the whole season. If Bear is ready to take that 5-6 spot, then I'd rather not wait.

I am one of the few Benning supporters (mainly because he is not that bad and is very close to McD, to the point that McD spent his BDay with Benning and Benning's folks) but in the end he is a #6 defensman and if we cannot replace that we are in real trouble. A decent 3C? I would jump all over that.

Unless we get a clear upgrade on Benning, or a legit scoring 3C for him, I wouldn’t let him go.

As much as I'm not a fan of Benning, goal is more important. If we could move Kosk, it would be worth much!

Would Ho Sang for Puljujarvi make sense? Ho Sang is two years older than Puljujarvi, also a RW but smaller in size. Both have attitude problems but struggling to get their NHL careers going. JP played 153 NHL games vs. Ho Sang's 53 but Ho Sang has been more productive in terms of goals and assists on a per game basis.

No way Puli clears waivers, and Ho-Sang just dropped his own value. They'd need to sweeten the pot.

Don't know if they'd do that, but I'd consider a Kosk-Greiss swap a sweetener to make JP-HS worth doing.

Give up pulled pork to get Greasy.
Greiss is 33 and needs a new deal at years end; but one never knows with goalies.

Wasn't Kosko an Islander in his first NHL time? Yep, drafted back in 2009 2nd round (31st pick overall) by the New York Islanders. If Varlamov proves to be able to carry the load for the Islanders I think they would consider shipping Greiss. Trotz always had a clear #1 in Washington and Nashville. Varlamov is 31 and is signed through 2022-23 so Koskinen who is the same age doesn't really fit to the pattern of developing for the future.

I'm fairly sure we'd have to retain $$$ if something like that was to happen, and we're in no position to do that. We're going to ride with Kosko until at least the last year of his deal, if not all the way to the end.

Seeing the difference in the team's attitude and style, and recalling the "if they don't want to be here, they should leave" comments from last year....I don't want Puljujaarvi any where near our guys. Rieder, Lucic, JP, Talbot, as a group seem like addition by subtraction.

If JP was here, he couldn't crack this lineup. May as well keep raising his value abroad.

The problem is that it wasn't just the coaches. Information I got was that there were even a bunch of players on this roster that requested to not be put on a line with him. JP's issues are on him, not the coach IMO.
