First up, we face a confused Canucks organization to kick off the season. Demko and Quinn are their saving graces. Healthy seasons from them and they could just squeak in. But enough about them. Campbell starts tonight. That's all I've heard. Feel free to update if anybody hears line-up though it's pretty much what we all know. Only new face being Connor Brown. Injuries ugh... Kick some azz this year boyzzz! I'm stoked! Pumped up!! GO OILERS GO!!

I always feel kinda pukey right before the start, and this year is no different.
Better play from Campbell. Full season of Ekholm. Nurse returns to form. Bouchard continues to develop. Maybe Connor Brown is the RW we've needed.
Lots of possibilities. Lets get started.

Even all the TO talking heads pick the oilers for the cup this year! The pressure they've put on themselves with this "cup or bust talk" is huge. I've promised myself to try not to get too high or too low during the season and that making the playoffs is all that counts and then the reset and new season begins!! No guarantees that the first 3-game losing streak and it will all go out the window though

I’m really having a hard time getting excited about hockey or anything for that matter. I’ve been watching too much news and what has and is happening in Israel is disturbing. This world is going to Mangiapane. Hope you all enjoy the game. Sorry to be a bummer!

Maybe this thread should be deleted or put on hold lol. Holloway may be injured, hopefully not. Terrible game, yep, it's only one game.
Needs Eks for sure, just have that feeling that Nurse/Bouch is not the best pairing. Broberg to play with Eks, not sure if I've seen enough from Broberg to play top 4, have to give him a chance, he has the tools but have not seen much hockey sense and quick thinking wise.
Work ethic would be nice next game. I don't blame the goalies...box out the players trying to screen them.

I give Campbell a pass with the garbage effort that was put forth in front of him and Skinner tonight. No Ekholm, Nurse and Bouchard were nightmares defensively again and Connor Brown was invisible. Yes it's only one game but it's the same problems that plague this team year after year.

Why does this happen to this team all the time. All I hear on a regular basis is we have to learn from this. Well for Kuzmenko sakes then learn from it already. How embarrassing!! What is it? Leadership? Coaching? .
How can we let the opposition just stand in front of the net untouched. My god that is very basic shot right there. Tie him up, push him out. Numerous times multiple Oilers standing in a group in front of the net with a Canuck standing behind them all by themselves.
We were beat to every puck and lost 90% of the puck battles. It’s not like these guys are new to the league. This thing about we need to learn from this is getting old. When is there going to be a time they actually learn? They get paid a sick amount of money to have to keep learning the same things. Any regular job if the boss had to keep teaching you how to do your job properly over and over you would not have your job. It’s time these guys start treating this like a job and learn their damn lessons and don’t let it happen like that again. The coach needs to be harder on these guys. Benching, press box etc. Also maybe they need a fire lit under them every game before they come out. I can’t believe that they do. What are they children. Time to man up and quit this crap.
Rant over
Have a good day everyone!! 😁

Why was everything I just listed coming from the other team?!! Poor Campbell, those weird hops, I hope Woody gives him another chance next game to right the ship, because I expect the whole team to come out looking completely different or it's going to be a long season with no cup at the end of it. That's why it bothers me to talk too much about the Oilers being favorites to be Champs. They've got to just do it and stop talking about it before they actually earn it.

If I were the coach, I'd tell the team that I don't want to hear anymore talk about the Oilers being favored to win the cup. I'd tell them instead to act like contenders and be tough to beat and if anyone asks about the cup to just say "yeah, everybody wants to win the cup and we're no different but you have to make the playoffs to win the cup. Right now we're no where close to making the playoffs, so talk to us when we're close or actually in. Until then we just won't talk about it."

Hmmm. Interesting strategy, let's shite the bed big-time to shut down all this Cup talk, and since it's not a home game it won't matter?

Hmmm. Interesting strategy, let's Mangiapanee the bed big-time to shut down all this Cup talk, and since it's not a home game it won't matter? I just don't think anyone has the right to think they deserve the cup until they've actually won it. To win it, you've got to earn it and to earn it, you need to work for it. Until this team is willing to work hard each game, all game long, the cup will continue to be elusive. Talking about winning the cup doesn't help anything except making the Oilers look over confident to the rest of the league. It'll feel like a feather in their caps if they can beat the team that thinks they'll be the next champs. Home or away they all count, but the last game is done in the past so put it behind you and worry about the next one. I think the Oilers should stick to "walkin' the walk", and forget about "talkin' the talk".

If anyone on this roster including McDrai were even thinking they are "favs" to win the cup, we are in deep doo-doo and that's even before last night's debacle. As gibb and sharp point out, this "talk, or excuses whatever you want to call it" is becoming same old same old. "Good teams" have a min std level of compete they never drop below. there's the odd time they'll get blown out on a B2B or after a long road trip, but this was a first game "season-opener". TBH I'm struggling to comprehend how they could have put forth such a shiity effort. regardless if they "bounce back" saturday and start to string wins together, a loss like this should simply not be in their DNA or ever show up if they are indeed "real contenders" ?

As soon as the media talk and the Vegas odds became favorable towards the Oilers, I became concerned. Game looked like they believed the hype without realizing that you need to play the games first. The way it all went down was pretty amateur. I kinda don't mind it though if it shuts up the hype and we just get to hockey. The other annoying thing is that there was not a full roster iced. No matter the situation, being unable to ice a full roster is improper team management. Thinking you are good enough to win without a complete team is arrogant. The Oilers fully earned the loss. They are not entitled to a single thing. Now that it's done, I trust that they will get their hsit together. The Oilers are in fact good enough to win the Cup IF they execute their game, play as team, and realize that they need to get to work.

Well now that the boys have egg on their faces, I think it's time they took a good look and decide it's time get serious about the next game in front of them. At least that's what I hope is going to happen tomorrow. JUST PUT THE WORK IN! Everything else will follow as it should.
