I don't think it's too much to expect some sort of reason given why the ship was never stolen or plundered. Otherwise, it's just poor storytelling, contrived deux ex machina. But hey, that's just me. You're right, they could have said something like Lando stayed to watch over the ship or whatever.

You're right, they could have said something like Lando stayed to watch over the ship or whatever. How about some kind of security lock/forcefield? Jedi powers circumvent the problem, and Bob's your uncle. Not that hard to make it a lot better. The franchise deserves that at least, imo...

I think JJ ran into the problem of having to try and fix so many issues with the last movie that he had to cut corners in the story telling. |

If I remember correctly sith groupies or whatever you want to call them were in the background and always seemed to be not far from our heroes trail. When they took Chewie they could have made an attempt to capture everyone but they didn't. It seemed that the sith groupies were aware of many aspects of our heroes journey almost like they were stationed there waiting for jedi to eventually come. Palpatine bragged that every detail had been part of his plan so maybe the ship still working was part of the lure. Palpatine was undone by underestimating Leia's power and the fact Han Solo was force sensitive and could turn Ben back. Palpatine was over confident and didn't see the other possibilities. Just a thought.
