I often thought teams should not retire the number. I think it is still an honor to have their name and number hanging. I miss seeing number 7,9 or other popular numbers as so many teams have retired those numbers...many younger player liked wearing their idols numbers.

Enjoy your retirement Duncan, you eared it! It was a dream come true to have you on the Oilers blueline, I just wish it started a few years earlier or you were a few years younger now. You will be missed, but you opened up a good chunk of cap room for us. All the best to you and your family and there maybe even be an opening in the Oilers organization for you.

I have a gut feeling Keith continues on with the team in another role

Keith may be hard to replace not matter what we believe. Is he a step slower, yes. does he have a good stick, good instincs and can move the puck to make the quick pass, yes. The improvement from a potential candidate would be mobility as a whole. Hard to replace his smarts and winning pedigree. We need to spend 3.5-4 mil for that at least. So here we go, let's see what happens.

I have a gut feeling Keith continues on with the team in another role I sure hope so. I think he is a positive asset and I was hoping that we would get him for 1 more year. Either way, he was great for Bouchard and I look forward to seeing Bouchard mature into a top D-man. What does the cap recapture look like for the Hawks?

Thanks for being a good D, a good mentor to our young D and showing all our players what it takes to win.

Saw somewhere Keith will be staying with the organization at some capacity not yet determined.
I'll share it when I find it again, unless someone else saw it too.

Saw somewhere Keith will be staying with the organization at some capacity not yet determined. I'll share it when I find it again, unless someone else saw it too. I like this move. From The Hockey Writers Duncan Keith Coming Back to Oilers This Season
In response to a question about where the leadership would come from for the Edmonton Oilers this coming season, head coach Jay Woodcroft was a guest on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer on Monday and revealed that Duncan Keith will be around the team a lot. He didn’t confirm what role Keith would have with the team, but he did hint that an announcement would be imminent.
Woodcroft noted that the organization wanted to give Keith time to digest his retirement but the door is open for him to be part of the executive team and Woodcroft seemed to suggest it was just a matter of time before a title was made public. Whether that be as part of the coaching staff or as a scout or assistant to the GM.
