This definatley puts us in a bad spot cap wise. It seems like Broberg was ready to step up this year. Seems other teams thought that too. Good D take longer to develop and are hard to come by and we've been patient with him. My bet is to keep Broberg but hate to lose either. I too would like to keep Broberg over Holly. Does not seem like there is a way out. Need to simmer on this and not get too spicy with other posters. Super annoyed and need to tone it down.

Yup. Matching Holloway's offer is a no brainer. Broberg is an overpay, take the compensation Forwards are easier to fill. Broberg plays bith sides. If anyone, let the Calgary boy go. Stl knows this, that's why Broberg got the bigger deal. We are in tough to match Holloways money let alone doubling it for Broberg. I can't see any way they match Broberg who is approaching his mid 20's before even getting a sniff at a full time NHL gig. Maybe they do find a way to match on Broberg or both, but I can't see it honestly. What's available out in cyberworld for free agent defenders?

We are in tough to match Holloways money let alone doubling it for Broberg. I can't see any way they match Broberg who is approaching his mid 20's before even getting a sniff at a full time NHL gig. Maybe they do find a way to match on Broberg or both, but I can't see it honestly. What's available out in cyberworld for free agent defenders? Never been butt hurt for any reason, this is the painful kind without even feeling it. Yes we do have a couple of prospects but it will take time. It's really hard to give up on youth and speed as we get older and embrass huge contracts. Formidable core with youth, now much of that is gone. Cheaper contracts as some would suggest for our RFAs. gone. We are less of a contender, see what SB does to fix part of it.

Well this is what happens when you pay top players ALL of the money as we have been discussing most of the summer. It's not even done yet, there is not much left for up and coming players so don't blame them. There ya go. They have value too, not just McD and Drai. Downside of this is Drai will see the team less deep and cup worthy. Then don't ask for 14.5 million... Other players want a future and to get paid smaller amounts as well.

We're deep with forwards now and shown we can draw good forwards here, and that's why Broberg appears to be the right choice if we can only keep one. Many agree Broberg is an excellent skater and he really did step in and do a good job in the playoffs. Ekholm goes out of his way to praise how talented he thinks Broberg is. If he indeed does turn out to be a very good top 4 Dman, we'd be crazy to let him walk for a 2nd round pick.

There's also no proof that either would have signed in January-feb given that both were still largely in the doghouse at that time and may not have felt there was much of a future here anyway, so none of us really know just "how much" effort/priority KH did put into signing them? IMO, it wont have been much. Anyhow, if SB thought this was a cushy job to land, taking over a SC contender and just tweaking them to a SCF win, his summer just become a whole lot harder and if he manages to navigate it, he'll start to earn those redemption points, at least for oiler fans!

If either players agents let them sign contracts at that point in time they should both have been fired immediately.

I wonder if these offer sheets affect what Drai is asking? I really believe that both him and McDavid don’t give a Mangiapane about money or individual awards with their focus on winning a cup. Within reason. Would Drai shave off 200k off his ask if management shows him a plan to retain Broberg & Holloway that works with him doing that? Does he take a mil off and sign for 1 or 2 years? Lots of retired good players without a cup likely would time machine back in time and take league minimum for a year or two if they hoist the cup. If the number comes in low like suggested, and 97 does the same, AND we win the cup, Katz better start budgeting for a couple more statues and Edmonton better start picking a few streets to be renamed.

Looks like this is a case where you over ripen players, it comes back to bite sometimes. Offer sheets happen rarely, this is one of those times. Hopefully Drai comes in cheaper but he may look at it the opposite way with guys leaving, less depth so he might want more now. See what happens
