I could be wrong but I think windsor was more eluding to Lavoie being a cheap replacement for Skinner and he threw Janmark's name in there and that muddied the discussion somewhat? I'm not convinced Lavoie will match Skinner's output this season, in fact i highly doubt it but there are a few factors that have to also be considered in whether one becomes "better value" than the other. First of course is cap hit/price point, second is opportunity. It seems skinner was all but inked into 20mins a nt on the 2nd pair wing position alongside Drai, whereas Lavoie will be lucky to get 6-10 mins a nt on 4th line in Vegas, even if he does crack the line up? my caveat to that is the coach just put skinner on the 3rd line to presumably "wake him up"! Happy to see that actually, however one thing that concerns me is the oilers philosophy of always starting their prospects on the 3-4th line? This is fairly common practice I know, but some players for example savoie, were never meant or built to be 3-4th line grinders so playing them there is not setting them up to succeed IMO? And before anyone rips that idea apart, i can point to several "rookies" eg stankoven in dallas, who are given a few opportunities to succeed on the top 2 lines and they end up running with it! In my line of work, one of our methodologies is called "fast fail". It basically means you try something at the high end of its capabilities to see if it can survive? If not, then there's not much point in wasting time trying to "nurture" it and bring it along gradually. I believe I see some teams adopt this philosophy with their rookies. It's not perfect, but i think it's the better way to test rookies when you're at the top of the league, because you simply dont have time to FAFO with 3-4yrs development when your "window" is maybe only 2-3 yrs, broberg and hollywood being classic FAFO examples I'm saying that Sprong or Lavoie and others can match or come close to Skinners output as is, the potential is there, they all score goals but have something more to give defensively. To be kind about it. No one is going to replace Janmark defensively at the price he brings. Very solid. Point is we could save 2 mil and have signed one of Holloway or Desharnais with the savings on a Sprong or Lavoie vs a Skinner whom all bring a similar resume. Saying this and being down on Perry because he is too old can get 12-15 goals and mix it up most nights. Hard to replace and with Kane out and if Nurse it going to be a doormat there is no one else to do that job. The point is the Oilers didn't want to signed them to that, or they would have still been here.

So with this outlook than Eks can't do it anymore, Eks is older than Schmidt. Good big minute defenders such as Ceci, not at 4.5 mil but 3.2 mil, over 20 mins a night past 3 years that we need to replace as well with guys not use to those minutes. It's easy to look elsewhere without looking within. Good discussion guys and gals, anxious for the season. Lots of juice on the board of 100+ members, love it! I think Ceci got a bad rap, but comparing him to Montour is laughable. There's a reason one of them was a cap dump, and the other one got a raise from a new team. Eks was doing on the same team as Montour last year. Him still being there doesn't reduce the loss of Montour's minutes. It took both of them to win the Cup. Bowing out. Let's see

It appears much of your argument is centered around the fact that JJ did make some good moves, but might have gotten a little too giddy and went too far doing too much too soon. That I can definitely agree on. I think Jackson is trying to restructure the organization, I think he didn't like the Ahl and prospect line up, and that also includes the scouts that have lacked. Katz will put the money in, why hadn't they used it? Like not having scouting in Ontario is straight up inexcusable. Good points. Regarding the money, I think the idea seems to be having the team make do as is until around the trade deadline and then make a big acquisition using the money then. I'm hearing different analysts saying they think the Oilers will be big players at the deadline, so my hope is that they are successful then. Ekholm seems to me like he actually blossomed or graduated to the next level when he was given his opportunity with the Oilers, great for us (I love what that guy brings)! If Ekholm can keep this up and Bouchard can keep up his play or even take more steps, that will help our situation a lot. Then if Emberson can play decently and if Nurse can get rid of those brain farts that make me want to throw something at the TV, we'll be doing great. It drives me crazy that Nurse can play at a certain level, but then does stupid Mangiapane that he should Know better than to do. I'd be happy if he just kept his game simple and focussed more on good defending. I'm sure then we'd all be a lot happier with him and playing it safe, that usually leads to offensive opportunities and he'd get his offense that way instead of trying to force what is not there.

Nobody knows how good or how bad any moves made by JJ will be until they play some real games. I originally said I'd hold my judgement until game 10 was played. Realality is we won't know until the last game is played.

WTF are the Oilers doing? Seriously. Now instead of accruing cap space they will start the season on LTIR? This is a gong show. SB had his presser and told us that's what he wanted to do. So they recall Savoie and sign Wright. So it looks like they will put Kane on LTIR after so appears they can accrue some cap space. Wright registered today, meaning we still have 950k in cap. x.com/PuckPedia/status/1843407315715928182

It’ll be interesting to see if oilers reclaim him since they have 1st dibs ?? No they don't have first dibs. But they're the only team that can claim him and send him straight down if no other team puts in a claim for him.
