The shoutbox seems to be the go-to choice for people to discuss the games as they play out and that is fine. One drawback I find is that you cannot scroll back and read the reactions of posters should you not be at a computer/device during gametime. For example, I watched the last game vs. the Blue Jackets at my local bar and was freaking out at some points, and later wondered how others from this site were faring as well. Smith's pass to McD, JJK scoring, that 5-on3... in the past the GDT was there for me to scroll through and enjoy the comments from everybody and even reply to some if I wanted. But with the shoutbox, you can only scroll back a bit, and you miss out on all that.
Is there any way to address this? At least be able to scroll back far enough to view all the game comments?
Thanks!

I checked and re-checked, and changed settings all i could, but unfortunately the shoutbox is hardcoded into the forum programming, we cannot change the cache to display a larger amount of recent posts. It's unfortunate for sure. I'll keep my eye out for perhaps a plugin to give us more flexibility. In the meantime we are unfortunately stuck with what we have. I will keep things posted here on my progress.

Just spitballin' and I don't know jack about running a website and/or programs so forgive me if this sounds dumb or whatever....

I've already looked into that as well. Proboards views their shoutbox as a "temporary" chat, and that's the way they intend to keep it. Their opinion (and it's probably not wrong) is that if we want a place where posts remain then that's what the forum threads are for. Furthermore, designing or finding a plugin that would take care of moving shoutbox posts to a thread is not an option either because Proboards will not permit any plugin or automation to create posts on their forums (Also IMO the right thing to do). So we are kind of stuck with what we have with the shoutbox. There are other options if members here feel the shoutbox is not meeting up to our expectations, things like discord or other online chats. However doing that would mean actually leaving this forum for Game Day chats and coming back for posting so again that is not ideal. One other thing though is the fact that as Admins, (myself, SuperDave, and Hillcat: No the bronco isn't, he's too rebellious) we have access to a larger post history of the shoutbox in a panel only accessible to us. If there is a shout that you would like to review, send us a PM and either one of us will be happy to copy the shout in question back to the shoutbox. I know that sucks, but really that's what we get. One thing that does give me some hope is that Probaords has rumbled about making the shoutbox with a larger cache in future forum upgrades, somewhere in the 200 post area.

Just a fyi: I was on the shoutbox last night until the end of the first, then went out to watch the game elsewhere. Anyway, I left the computer on, didn't shut down the program, and just put the computer on 'sleep' mode.
When I restarted today, I was able to initially scroll all the way back to the 1st period comments where I left it, and read the whole reaction to the rest of the game. I thought the thing had been fixed to include a much longer 'temporary' record, but I just re-checked and it's back to what it was.
Maybe there is some kind of glitch/loophole that can be manipulated here?
(I'll try this 'sleep mode' procedure again next time I leave mid-game, and report back here...)

Proboards intended the shoutbox to be a temporary messaging thing and they are keeping it that way, they say that if we want a more long term cache that's what the message boards are for. but that is definitely something we can experiment with.
