It's hard to be both an Offensive team as well as a Defensive. The Oilers obviously fall into a highly offensive team. With the offense leading the defensive side of the ledger suffers. It usually ends up with more odd man rushes against. They can surely be a bit more defensive, however I'd much rather watch them then say a Minnesota. With the PP leading and being 3rd in the NHL 5 on 5 our goals against is higher. Most important stat is wins vs losses. Are we just 12th in the league for goals against? That's not bad if this is the case. I am happy with everything except for our 3rd line. Our 4th line plays very little. Our bottom 6 has been leaky. If McLeod can do his thing that should improve things. Offensively and defensively Edit we are 17th in the league in goals against. Not sure when it comes to 5 on 5 specifically26th. Ahead of Chicago, Seattle, Ottawa, Detroit, Arizona and Vegas. 5 on 5 we have 34 goals for and 33 against. Believe it or not, Eberle has more 5v5 goals than Drai or McD.

Teams playing more or less games makes a difference Can't find the /gp split, but we have allowed the 7th most 5v5 goals against at 33, and have played less games than all the teams that have allowed the same or more, so Windsor's point stands. Need to tighten that up.

Thanks for all the stats guys. My point was based on the eye test which I am guilty of from time to time rather than the perfect stats. Guilty as charged lol, hopefully happy can take it easy on me still.
We are outscoring our mistakes which is great as long as it keeps going!.

I mostly use the eye test as well Windsor and the bottom line is outscoring our poor/mediocre defensive play is not sustainable, especially in playoffs. It will likely get us to the dance, but we'll be gone before the party really starts. What may be just as alarming as our ave D and 5x5 numbers, is that this year we have had "very good/elite" goaltending, which hasnt always been the case and has been an excuse used a lot in the past as to why our D numbers aren't better than they should be. If smith is still out for a while, i'll expect kosk/skinner's #'s to drop off and they will be singularly blamed, whereas everyone "should" know, good D-play takes 6 guys to do their jobs right.
