Hey all, things at the hospital finally slowing down a bit where I can do something else. Went to the game tonight. The officiating was abysmal. Our getting mugged and nothing. We nudge someone and the arm goes up like it on viagra! I will say, the Stars fans are pretty decent. They weren't talking smack and even said the Oil was having an off night. I'll give them credit for that. Hope to be around a little more often now. I've missed you guys. Good to see you back on the boards HillCat. I'm curious, was it a full house or close? It seemed pretty quiet on the broadcast and Dallas fans are usually pretty boisterous?

It must very demoralizing and almost impossible to stay motivated when you see the double standards of officiating. I swear they were actually taking the piss tonight with that @interference call on McD with 19secs to go and Drai gets mugged over and over again and the sec he shoves a guy in the back for abusing him, the ref practically creams himself and get get his hand out his pants quick enough to put it in the air to call a penalty! I don’t know if anyone watches F1 here, but imagine if Red Bull and Mercedes were continually penalized until Hass wins a race or Mazeping gets pole? Do you think fans would still watch??? Well the NHL is going to lose fans in Canada in droves and maybe already are with this bs game management. Canadians know BS when they see it even if the Americans love it since their teams primarily benefit I wonder if the Oil is keeping track of the officials and which ones are not doing their job particularly vs us. Last night after rewatching the game specifically looking for missed calls I counted at least 5 and there were some marginal that we got called on and Dallas didn't (ie Drai cross checking when the Dallas player cross checked him in the back or McLeod gets high sticked just missing his eye right in front of one of these bean bags). It's really frustrating but I can't imagine what it's like for the players and the coaches! You'd have to think they have a book on all the refs, although that could sometimes be a bad thing as it sets you up to have a bias just like the refs go into games with their own bias. Tipp's post interview was very accurate IMO, to paraphrase: "we outplayed them first 5mins, refs saw to it that Stars got a few cheap PP to even the flow, they scored on both when normally we've been killing them off, this results in us playing catch up and when the tide started turning, they gave them a few more PPs and they scored again as one more expired. At that point, down 3-0, our guys were to frustrated and fed up to put up too much of a fight and the game was dying until we scored. That woke the refs up, they gave Dallas a few more PP to ensure no comeback (taking Drai off for 4 mins was a nice little extra touch) and with the game truly out of reach and with 19 secs to go, the refs call an interference on McD so that the ledger looks a bit more respectable and ticks off a few "to do" boxes on their game management form. McD then promptly tries to take someone's head off with a 1-time blast in last 5 seconds as if to say "the next one will be aimed at stripes"!

They hardly outplayed them before the penalties, which were two pretty obvious calls. They were ok at best for about 5 minutes and then stop playing for the next 5 which led to the first penalty. Yes the Refs were awful but we failed to show up for yet another 1st period and had another hole to dig out of which is becoming common practice. Even Louie said during the broadcast that they hadn't shown up for the first period once again and multiple people in the chat last night commented after the first about it being our worst first period of the year with no one commented on the reffing at that point. If this team cannot figure out how to play 60 minutes they are going nowhere in the playoffs.

I wont disagree that the calls weren't real, they were, but it must get very demoralizing when the same Mangiapane is done unto you and the refs dont call it. There's an obvious double standard and i guess the top guys are sick of it, and as many including myself stated last night "what's the point"? The system wont change, so why make the effort when the system is rigged and tilted against you? As tipp stated, normally our PK fights those off and the big guys manage to overcome the non-called clutch, grab and interference. But There was a real sense last night from the end of 1st period onwards, that no matter what happened on the ice, the refs were not going to call anything on the Stars and they were not going to allow the oilers a chance to even fight there way back?? So what comes first? the lack of effort, or the lopsided officiating that leads to a sense of "why bother"? I know which one i think comes first and with some of our top PKers out now, this could get ugly really quick as our PK starts failing to negate the crap game management.

The lack of effort comes first like it does on about 90% of the nights this season. The first penalty was 10 minutes in and we hadn't had a shot on net that I could have saved at that point. If we are giving up before games start then every single one of them should be shipped out the door.
