2003 and counting. GOAT.
Always been a fan of KR. What must it do for team morale when a guy puts his body on the line night after night for the group?
Also, in the last minutes of a close game, you can always trust Russell to make the safe, smart play. 'Block shot, get puck, send puck north'.
It's no wonder why, in his time here, he is consistently at or near the bottom of the list in shots and goals surrendered per 60 or why the team's collective +/- is generally positive when he's patrolling the blueline.
If you're looking for flashy, Krusty's not your guy but if you're looking for a solid, responsible, calming back-end warrior, you'd be hard-pressed to find better than our man Kris Russell.
Proud that you're an Oiler Kris. Congratulations on being the number one shot-blocker of all time.

And it teaches ALL our D to sacrifice just as much as Keith has been brought in for. To ultimately win, we need to do that. As the players celebrated his feat, Bouch didn't seem that interested. Young man these are the intangibles that it takes to win. If nothing else, he teaches all players to get in the lanes to prevent a chance and help your goalie. That's how you win.

It was nice to see the team congratulate him for breaking the record. The ironic thing is that he's just glad to still be playing and he'll do what it takes to play longer in the NHL. The man has a huge heart and lots of determination!

What intrigues me most is that for all his blocks and getting in lanes, very rarely is he guilty of screening the goalie or deflecting shots into his own net. Not sure if it was last year or the one before but Nurse and Jones must have had at least 6 or 7 shots go in off of them or their sticks to say nothing of how many times they "flopped",missed the block and it resulted in a goal against because the goalie couldn't pick up the shot.

Russell has been #1 or #2 the past 4 seasons in goals against chances. A solid defensive defenseman for our younger players to learn from. Just as much as Keith if not more. No he's not sexy by any means.

I’m glad kh re-upped him for 1x1, but glad Russell is now becoming our #7-8 D-man. Hopefully he inspires the young guys with his sacrifice but now Bouch and Bro are miles ahead in talent. but as we all know, it takes more than talent to survive and thrive in the nhl and rusty has survived along time and it ain’t in talent

I've been pretty hard on Rusty because of his play with the puck, but my goodness....blocking 2000 NHL shots is inconceivable!! Like, un-be-lievable, stat.
Played a simple hard 22 minutes last night. A huge contribution to a great win.
Edit: for some context, since the start of last season Connor Hellybuck leads all goalies with 1689 saves. He's appeared in 61 games.
This is so bleeping bonkers.
