Think the kid deserves his own thread now. He’s done nothing but impress. Work ethic, results, improvement, defensive play, and he really seems happy to be doing what he’s doing.
May have more upside than Nuge.

I maybe eating my words here, and happy to do so. He is showing more offense than I figured he could.

I'm already impressed, but I agree that as time goes on, his ceiling could rise a bit. He reminds me of the modern version of Ryan Smyth, with maybe better hands. In his last interview that I saw, he said he's watching McDavid and Draisaitl and that he's noticing things they do that he's trying to add to his game. This is a prime example of McDavid and Draisaitl helping to make those around them better just by the opportunity of watching them frequently and picking up little things that they do. It's a great time to be an Oiler fan. Now if we can just shore up our D some more.

I missed that there wasn't a Clouder thread.
Every league/level he's been in he's needed an adaptation period then has excelled. Of course jumping to the NHL is the most difficult but he is growing.
Think Pulj/Yammo should hand over some cash to him lol...

OK In started this thread with a positive spin on the guy, but after looking at him for a few years, I’m not as high on him as I started. I see tons of talent, but not sure about his hockey IQ. I see him coming down the ice with the puck and honestly, I don’t think there is anybody other than 97 I’d want carrying the puck from our zone into theirs.
And that’s where he loses me. Circle around the net or make a pass that leads to nothing. Take it to the net and shoot a Kuzmenko of a lot more. All he has to do to significantly improve his game.
It’s one of the reasons I loved the Perry signing - teach these kids that goals are scored in front of the net.
He’s young, but hockey IQ is either there or it’s not. and I’m thinking not. I’m just hoping he recognizes and learns a few tricks of the trade to make him a more valuable asset.
FWIW - I don’t think all player need a high hockey IQ. Nurse and McLeod both have elite skills where if they just learn how to use those skills can be awesome for the team. If every skilled player had elite hockey IQ, we couldn’t afford them. I am a big McLeod fan..just SHOOT…and go to the net!!!!

I am a big McLeod fan..just SHOOT…and go to the net!!!! I think you nailed it. The difference between being top 6 and forever on the fringes is the BOLDED part. Unless you have an elite shot like Matthews, Drai, Ovi, 90% of goals are scored within 10ft of the net. It's a lesson some players never learn, or are just too afraid to do. I really like McLeod, i think he has pretty much all the other tools, but tenacity and bravery are tough lessons to learn. His only other option as you say is to learn to shoot a whole lot better, it's probably easier to acquire than the other 2
