Skinner has been great. I became a fan when he was a Lethbridge Hurricane and led the team with some excellent play. I was pissed off when he went to the Pat's and very pleased when the Oilers got him. I agree with the HNIC panel that this is good for Campbell as well and takes some pressure off. ... never thought I would give the twits on HNIC credit for something... 🤫

I know I shouldn’t, but Can you imagine if we ended up with top calibre goaltending for the next few years? It could happen.

Skinner was sensational last night in stopping all 43/43 of the King's shots including 19 in the 3rd, well deserved of his 2nd NHL shutout. There should be no dispute who this team's #1 goaltender is for the now and the future, Stu has earned it.
Lowetide posted these stats today, thought I'd repost them here, SS by the monthly at 5x5:
Oct .971 (4gp) Nov .914 (8gp) Dec .930 (11gp) Jan .934 (5gp) Feb .897 (6gp) Mar .918 (12gp)
.925, 8th overall amongst goalies that have played 1000+ min at 5x5 this season.
This is his rookie season.

This is his rookie season. This is 5-5 though. Joked that JC would be our starter come playoffs. Stew was at a .914 and up until last night has been gradually playing worse and was at a .908 or .909. After last night he is back to .911 League average is around .905 so he is above that. As long as whomever plays in goal, we hit or stay above .900 and we will have a good chance to win. This means our D plays like they should and our forwards come back hard to help out as well.

He'd probably be in the .915-.920% range if the PK was amongst the top 16 teams. Point is he's had an awesome rookie season and deserves the starter's net until proven otherwise.

I don't know why nobody is talking about Stu for the Calder.

So they are saying goalies (and lots of players) have a sophomore slump their 2nd year. The difference with Stew if that he did play games in 2021 so would this upcoming year be his sophomore year? That would be debatable.
Do you guys think Stew will improve or will it be Soup? Do you think it's going to be a 50/50 game split or is one goalie going to take over and whom will it be?

I'm hoping both guys improve and they have a 50/50 split on the games. Soup has the most to improve on, but I think there's a good chance he will do just that. Skinner needs to keep working on polishing his play, as the season progressed and then into the playoffs the heightened pressure exposed his lack of experience and magnified his flaws. Overall with Skinner you have to be impressed with what he accomplished as a rookie that was thrust into the starter position.

Think Stew can be as good and better in the playoffs. Still, although Soup did not play well he saved our bacon in the LA series when it counted. He should have started some games. Think we were getting the better of Brossoit then Hill came in, played well but the difference is Vegas had to stick with him, the coach did not have a choice. Woody had a choice and he chose the rookie.

My ideal scenario is that Soup actually plays well enough to become the legit #1 again and takes some of the pressure off stew so he doesn't have a "slump"? They both seem to have the same personality that would really encourage the other one to do well, but sometimes I wonder if that' a good thing? Maybe one of them needs to have more of a "killer instinct" like Smitty? Smitty's skills were fading badly in that last season, but his "F the world" attitude kept him in games that maybe would have crushed either soup or stew? I honestly dont think Soup has it in him and that's why i wasnt happy we went after him in FA? I'm hoping Stew "gets" it with experience. I think he has a chance to be another "Smitty 2.0" but prime-time Smitty not " too old gunslinger" Smitty? JMO.

I gotta root for Skinner, though obviously we need both our goalies playing well, so I'm cheering for Jack too, lol. Ultimately, one way or another, this team's number one goal for the season should be to allow fewer goals against. Full team effort. The offense will be there.

I'm starting Jack Wednesday if I'm Woody, he's been the better tender in exhibition, by a lot. Maybe give Stu the next game unless Jack puts up a donut then keep running him. Between the two of them, I'm feeling pretty good about our tandem going into the season. We will not have a back-up, we'll have a 1-A and 1-B tandem. Then everyone feels like a #1 and nobody's feeling's get hurt lol, kidding. But in today's NHL teams do run 2 goalies season long not to tucker out the better of the two for the playoffs. Likely be a 50-30 split in games and we should have good comp between eh two of them all season hopefully. SS will bounce back from his poor exhib play I have little doubt.
