It appears that I purchased My virtual reality headset at the perfect time. Reality has seen better days since my Oilers are struggling to look like a hockey team.
I promised myself when I retired I would get a virtual reality headset. I was going to buy the Meta Quest 2 headset, but the new version was set to release later in the year so I decided to wait for the new version. It was supposed to be released in September, but ended up being delayed until October. As per my usual way of purchasing a high end product that I will probably have for years, I decided to do some research so that I would pick the right product without regretting it later. Because I was taking my time doing the research I stumbled onto the Black Friday/ Christmas sale for the Meta quest 3 that gave me a high end game, a 6 month membership to the Meta quest website and an extra 50 dollar discount on the headset itself.
It had to be shipped to me so I just received it last week. I've been buying all the attachments that make the experience better after again doing the research and getting the extras on sale. Many reviews I've read by fellow VR users all seem to agree that these extras should be included with the headset since it is quite expensive to buy. Black Friday has been a good time to take advantage of as many price slashes as possible. This week has seen me trying out the headset and researching the different games and apps that are available. There is a lot to learn for a guy that struggles with the normal operations of computers. I'm basically self taught and struggle with getting to learn new ways of doing things on computers. I'm good at editing pictures to print and editing videos for my video music collection of concert dvds, all things that capture my interest. The Meta Quest 3 headset is able to work with a computer program site called steam that has a vast amount of games and apps. To use steam you need a gaming computer so I ended up purchasing a refurbished gaming laptop that handles the requirements that need to be met in order to play these apps and games on the headset. Getting these things to work together was taxing for me, but I struggled through and learned a lot in a short time. Who says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"? Over the next few months I'll be exploring virtual experiences getting to know the finer workings of this new fangled gadget and if the Oilers can't get their Mangiapane together, you know where I'll be.
If anyone else is using a vr headset I'd be interested in hearing your stories. Maybe I'll be able to learn more, or maybe I'll be able to help someone else struggling to get off the ground in vr.

Hey Tea. I bought my boy the MQ2 last year and he loves it. I've been meaning to get into it myself when he's not around but always find myself too busy. One of these days I will. Definitely be more fun then watching the Oilers lately haha. I know I downloaded a fishing game for myself when he first got it but I never got around to playing it and he says it's gone now lol so I'll have to look for that again! I keep telling him there are a bunch of free games he could/should download but he seems to be hooked on a game called Gorilla Tag where u run(with arms only)/climb around, as a gorilla that has no legs lol. You can imagine what he looks like when he plays haha. He gets on that game with his friends and he'll play till the battery dies ha. Which is fine by me. I'm glad the battery dies after about 2.5-3 hrs. That's a long video game session as is! Doesn't take long to charge either. My only advice would be - BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PLAY! My kid whacked my TV screen in my liv room and that destroyed the picture rendering the TV unusable. I put that TV along with the top of an Air Hockey table in my garage and a buddy and myself let loose on them with the the sticks and pucks one night. You should see it now, I've never quite seen the innards of a TV till then haha. Anyways... after he broke the TV we moved the VR headset to his gaming room but it's not a huge room. Since then he has pretty much destroyed the blinds in that room and smashed his hand on a brick chimney that runs along a wall in the room lol. We have now cleared that room of almost everything else so he has more space. Hopefully the damages to the house and himself have come to an end! Enjoy your new toy, I'm sure you'll love it, they are pretty neat!

I've already knocked a few things over in the poolroom, my wife thought it was funny. I have to admit, there are some pretty neat experiences.

Really cool playing that and that was just the first mission to get used to playing the game. Flying through the tutorial was fun. The possibilities seem to be endless.
