Woody was a good coach and didn't deserve to be fired , but the organization had to do something to kick start the team before it was too late. I didn't intend on criticizing Woody, but I guess any difference that I like about Knoblauch is in essence a hit against Woody. Sorry Woody it's not intentional.
What I like about Knoblauch is that he is so calm and so deliberate with his thoughts and actions. I like how he keeps lines together and only gets the blender out occasionally to counter certain circumstances and then the line goes back together. I like how he is not rushed into inserting players into the lineup until he's ready to do so and he doesn't apologize for it, that's just the way it is with him. I like how he didn't rush to make any big changes, but did make some smaller ones and they worked. I like how he sees the team playing and doesn't want to change the lineup unless something changes and then he'll look at it. It seems that the team likes his messages and style and are buying into his systems. I know it wasn't fair to Woody, but I do like Knoblauch better.
PS. This doesn't relate to the Oilers other than Knoblauch himself, but I find he looks a lot like my father when my father was in his early 30's. My father's hair was darker and mouth was a little different, but around the eyes, nose and forehead the similarity is incredible. Every time I see him, I see the pictures of my father from back then. My father filled out going from around 180-190 to about 225-230 lbs. in his later years and stayed that way until he died. Dad was 5'11" and a welder who worked with heavy projects daily so there was no fat on him. Dad was also calm and deliberate and didn't say much, but when he did people listened.
