Last night the Oilers broke a Canadian record of 12 wins that was shared with the Habs, well the Oilers are the sole Canadian record holder now at 13 straight wins!! I was at my buddies last night shooting pool (2 nights in a row). He had the game on TV muted as we listened to music, partied with friends and shot pool, great night! When the 3rd period started I sat on the couch and got into the game. At one point a couple of my friends were talking and stood in front of the TV. I said to them "Hey guys" and then they realized they were blocking the view and moved. Right after they moved Gagner goes around back of the net and scores a fluky goal. We all burst out laughing when we realized they moved just in time to see that goal unfold. It was really a nice time, about half way through the 3rd my wife came and sat beside me to watch the end of the game and I thought that was pretty cool too because she knew how much it meant to me.
I wanted to start this thread because the Oilers deserve all the credit that can be heaped on them and deserve a thread where it can be discussed. You see this win streak doesn't have to end here, although it might. It is possible that this streak could continue and I would love to see that happen. I want to praise the team for many reasons, they started out in 30th place and now sit in 3rd position in the Pacific division. Skinner deservedly holds the record for 11 games with 2 or less goals a game, that's an awesome record! The team set the record without a point from McDavid or Draisaitl in that game and Gagner produced the winning goal, who would have predicted that?
Here are the records for games won starting at 13. This is who we are now tied with.
Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey (twice) and Florida.
14 games.
Boston and Washington.
15 games.
New York Islanders and Pittsburgh.
16 games.
Columbus.
17 games.
Pittsburgh.
I don't know how far we can go, but I'm proud of what the team has done and I hope they can add more to the streak. GO OILERS GO!!

and they have a VERY good chance to extend that streak. Their next three games are: Columbus, Chicago, Nashville
As long as they come ready to play they can tie the all time record with 3 wins... then it's Vegas for number 18 and wow would that be a good game if it all works out!

You better check your math big guy, 3 wins brings us to 16, but 16 would be nothing to scoff at.

Right you are, I was off by one.... so IF we get past the Jackets, Hawks, Preds, Knights THEN we play the ducks for 18
An Eichel-less Vegas, it is possible!

The streak continues!! The Oilers are pushing the Canadian record to 14 games won and are now eyeing 15 games. Chicago is the next opponent the Oilers face and they are a team that gives us a good chance to get to 15 games. Skinner has been excellent! I'm very impressed and surprised that he has improved so much this season. Many times I've praised Skinner and stated that as good as he has been there is always room for improvement. After last game he played so good that I have to give credit for a great game and keep it at that. While I'm sure every player is striving to improve, I would feel that I slighted Skinner to suggest he needs to keep getting better. The improvement I've seen in Skinner's game is very impressive and if he can keep it up I'll be just fine with his level of play as is. Skinner has been helped by the team's greater attention to defense. Our D corps have been a much more sound group and our forwards are helping out more. As we witnessed last night, there is still work to do because we were on our heals a few times. Each team we face will be gunning to be the team that stopped our run. Simply put, the Oilers record is that much more impressive because of how hard each team is playing us.
Great work guys, keep it up. You are making us fans very proud.

Well boys and girls The Edmonton Oilers have extended the Canadian record of most consecutive wins to 15 games, now eyeing 16 games. Personally I think that's a pretty big deal considering the Habs had the record of 12 straight wins set back in 1976. 48 years since that record was made and the Oilers have added a full 3 games to the record, very, very impressive in my opinion. As I'm sure, we all know the league record is 17 games and two more games appear to be doable if the team can continue to be so defensively sound. Skinner will be back in net and he could also extend his own Oiler record 11 games to 12, again very, very impressive.
There is more going on here than just a winning streak record. We are witnessing a team that started off in 30th place that has fought it's way into a playoff spot before the halfway point. We are witnessing a team known for only offense and known to be a poor defensive team earn these wins because of it's vastly improved defensive game. We are witnessing a team that is widely considered to be a Cup favorite add a gritty player who is felt will greatly improve their chances to win a cup. The media is making a point of suggesting that teams that win these records don't necessarily win the Cup. For example the team that set 17 wins was Pittsburg and they didn't win the Cup that year. They forget to mention that that team did win the Cup the prior 2 years in a row though. So even though they did not win the Cup the same year as the record was set, they were a very good team was not far off. So I suggest to my fellow Oiler fans that while the record does not guarantee a Cup, it does suggest that the team in question was a very strong team in the hunt as a contender.

Getting pumped for the big game tonight!! Like I said earlier these teams we have just passed, are tied with and chasing were all great teams that while may not have won the cup, they were in the hunt and close. Now that brings me to the New York Islanders of 81-82 who we are presently tied with at 15 consecutive wins. I'm pretty sure that was a Cup winning team, please correct me if I'm wrong, but that was a pretty good team!

16 wins in a row!! C'mon Oiler fans, give the guys some props. THEY DESERVE IT!! Think of what they've done. They've earned 32 points in a row and they may not be done! They've climbed out of the basement and now they sit firmly in 3rd position in the Pacific.

Oil can win this year, I still don't understand the aberation that started the season.

keeping opposition down to 2 goals or less in 14 straight is almost more impressive, especially given this team had a reputation for leaking goals against. This is exactly the kind of style of game that wins cups and I personally haven't seen it before from the oilers, at least not since MacT coaching in 06. The big difference this time around is we now have the "game breakers" who can get the decisive goal in a defensive slugfest. There will be inevitable lapses between now and end of season, but if we get into playoffs, especially with some home ice advantage, then other teams should be very worried!!

I was just thinking back to when the streak first started. The Oilers had just lost three and the media was whispering maybe we were falling back into a slump after the 8 game win streak. I remember that the team and especially Draisaitl were up and not worried at all about that 3 game slump. I also remember that Leon said something like "now to start another streak" and maybe it's wishful thinking but I think he may have even said "and maybe even a longer one". Now the last part I can't remember for sure, but I am sure he called the next winning streak. Looking back I don't remember if it was before the streak happened, but I think it was after the 1st win. That's walking the walk after talking the talk.

Oil can win this year, I still don't understand the aberation that started the season. It's an interesting topic. I wonder if the team (and the coach) weren't looking too far ahead and figured that playoffs were a lock? Woody was doing a lot of messing around with the team's systems and structures when the season started and it definitely felt like they were a very confused bunch and the losses just started to spiral? I still like Woody, but it felt like he either didn't use the pre-season very wisely, or the ideas he was laying down just didn't click/resonate with the team, especially the core? I wasn't too happy when they fired him, but i have to admit, that since Knobby and coffey have been in charge, there is a calmness and methodology to this team that's been entirely lacking for the last decade or more. They no longer look like a team "waiting for things to happen" and/or waiting for the dynamic duo to pull games out of their "A's". They now look like a team with everyone knowing their role on it. This to me has been more of a revelation than even the winning streak, which is the product of this new "team concept"
