I am just wondering about a lot of posters expectations and what most would be ok with this post season. First round? Second round? Western Conference Finals?, Stanley cup appearance? Stanley cup? How far does everyone believe The Oilers can go this season? If they make it out the first round I can see them making a deep run into the Western Conference Finals, emphasis on IF? That being said so much depends on puck luck like the bounce of the puck; favorable match-ups; getting hot at the right time and lack of injuries? How far in the postseason does The Oil have to go to not a disappointing season?

That being said so much depends on puck luck like the bounce of the puck; favorable match-ups; getting hot at the right time and lack of injuries? How far in the postseason does The Oil have to go to not a disappointing season? There's a pretty large thread that's titled "Cup or Bust" so that was the expectation from both fans and team at beginning of the season ?? Objectively, I'd say anything less than a conference final would be a disappointment for me personally. If we get that far, then whoever we meet from central is going to be a really tough series and all the factors mentioned before and above, would have to go our way to make the final and win (as is case with any playoff team). In the end though, if even one thing goes seriously wrong: goalies become mediocre, depth scoring dries up, D not good, Dynamic Duo only average and PP/PK lose effectiveness)? then we probably wont get far? Again, I think this can be said for just about any team as well, its why there's so much excitement and anxiety around the games, as you never know until it plays out, how its going to end or go down. but GOG!!!

Expectations high. Nothing short of Lord Stanley's Cup for me.

Expectations high. Nothing short of Lord Stanley's Cup for me. I'm in the same boat, this team is going to the promised land of champions! They won't be denied.

I'm starting to think that we can take any team in the East. This team plays more like the eastern teams do, only this one is better at it. I think the biggest problem is in the west. Dallas, Colorado to me are the biggest barriers, even Vegas now that Hertl is playing and once Stone miraculously returns from injury on day 1 of the playoffs.
Deny them, and we win the cup IMO.

And literally right after I typed that I see there are videos posted on youtube showing Mark Stone practicing in a no contact jersey for the Knights. Looks like he will in fact be miraculously ready to go for game one of the playoffs.

I'm expecting Western finals. Probably against Dallas.
From there....crapshoot. Anyone's guess.

I expect we go into the Kings series and STB for the first game or at least the first period. I don’t know what it is with this team, but when we come out of a break with an expectation we are going to play really well (start of the season, after the ASB) we never do.
I think we will beat the Kings in 4 or 5 games, but the Kings will battle. Their goaltending and our high shot volume should be enough, although Vladar has been known to have that crazy good performance against us in the odd game.
After that, I don’t know. If we play defence first hockey we can beat anyone. If Skinner can play at the top of his crease without worrying about covering the guy on the cross seam pass, we should do well. If those passes happen and he plays deep in the net to compensate, we’ll get lit up.
Coaching is a question mark for me. Other coaches seem to adapt their play to mitigate our strengths or exploit our weaknesses. We just play our game, it seems. Look at the PP, for example. Teams have adapted to the cross-seam one-timer to Drai. Even the goalies are moving sooner and differently to cover Leon’s shot. Not saying it’s a bad play on our side, but we need a few more other plays to keep them honest. Bouch bomb is a good option, but would like to see Nuge shoot more. Prediction: Other teams will see that Bouch on his power play neutral zone possession does a lazy blind slow back pass to 97. It’s not always accurate and is ripe to be picked off for a breakaway. Some coach or player will pick up on that.
My other expectation is that after the first round we battle like we did against Vegas last year. Nasty playoff hockey. If we get the d/goaltending, we will win the cup.

Succinct video of each first round teams playing style/strategy and how it matches against their opponents.

I have to say last year I was more confident about the playoffs and really believed we would win it all. Thus year? Maybe a bit gunshy due to the massive disappointment of last year. I believe we are a better team this year. In the addition to our signings I really believe Skinner and VD are going to be much better. So my expectations? Lord Stanly needs to reside in Edmonton THIS YEAR!

Murray Holtby Binnington Hill All had phenomenal playoffs, difference making performances that got a Stanley Cup.
