McD/Drai/Neal top 10 in the NHL in points. McD/Drai/Klef top 10 in the NHL in assists. Neal/Drai/McD top 10 in the NHL in goals scored. Kosk top ten in the NHL for goalie wins. And the one I like best is Benning top 10 in the NHL for +/- only 4 players with better +/- . Some on here may have seen better in the '80's and early 90's but not me. Keep up the good work boys/DT/KH. Forgot to mention also Oilers are the # 1 team currently in the NHL.

Klefbom with 9 points. Nurse with 5. What does this team do with two 40 point dmen?
Koskinen with a .927 is the most surprising to me.
Thrilled with this start.

We needed improvement at goaltending and shots against, more than anything else. The shots are still coming but our tending has been solid. It needs to stay that way and we really need to work on limiting the shots.

I thought so too, until I was looking up stats while watching the game yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Short sample size I know, and the quality of the opposition has also got to be taken into account, however last season the Oilers were conceding goals at a rate of 3.34 goals per game, so far this season at 2.33 goals per game. On the offensive side, last season we were scoring at a rate at just under 2.83 goals per game, this season we are scoring at a rate of 3.44 goals per game. Hence we are currently benefitting from a G/D improvement of over one and a half goals per game...…...that is a dramatic turn around whichever way you want to look at it. The Oilers under Ken Holland & Dave Tippet so far ("so far" is the critical part I suppose) have scored more than half a goal per game (.62) as compared to last season, and are conceding more than one goal less per game (1.01) compared to last season. Who knows if or for how long this will continue? But, we have got off to the sort of start that should at least keep us in the hunt for a lot longer than in most previous seasons where often, we were virtually out of it by late November.

I know it's very early but I gotta say we are doing not too bad, we need to hit just above .500 from here on out to have a very good shot at making the playoffs. 95 points should put us there, we are at 15 now and 80 shy. 73 Games remaining so if we pull off .500 hockey, around 37 more wins and 7 loser points (or a combination thereof).

We've played 14 games. Leon Draisatl has 5 three point games out of those 14 games. That is whack, yo.

Chiarelli did a LOT of bad things for this team but LD's contract is turning out to be the steal of the century. I wonder where all those that screamed that he was way over paid are now? He was one goal away from tying Gretzky for the most goals in October in franchise history as well.

What we thought was going to be the problem before the season stated (keeping the puck out of our net) isn't actually now the biggest issue. After 14 games, a bigger sample size than my earlier post on Oct 17th, we are still only conceding goals at 2.64 per game, as compared to last season's 3.34 per game, so still a significant difference of .7 goals less per game. Not quite as good as it was in my earlier post, but in a still smallish 14 game sample size, conceding 6 to Florida can skew somewhat the stats.

Updated main stats: Smith 7th best save % .931 Smith 6th best G/A @ 2.12 Drai 2nd best pts @ 26 Drai Joint 1st goals with 13 McDavid 1st in assists with 17 McDavid Joint 3rd in points with 23 Neal Joint 3rd in goals with 11 And Oilers currently top of the west Lastly, after the last couple of seasons (and most of the past 13) I am finding it difficult to believe the above! Lucic and Talbot or Neal and Smith...…...that is a tough one!
