I don't think anyone is saying he is the real deal. How can you know with goalies. But the 2 year deal is often given to players coming over from Europe.
Though I don't know the exact reasoning, I feel like players coming out of college in the US get 2year deals as well.

Some yes, some no. Broberg, 3 years. Klefbom, 3 years. Maksimov, 2 years. Safin, 2 years.

Judging by that list MBM, i'd say the elite prospects get 3, middling prospects get 2?
