I don’t know whose idea this was. He is not needed.

I'm a little shocked at this one myself just from Perry's past with us. But a team that wants to win the cup can easily forget, so I get the move. Like Kassian he's an Huberdeau that has issues but I'd rather play with him then against him. Hopefully he's checked his head and left his baggage at the door. If so, we just got a helluva player for hella cheap.

Welcome, my main issue would be his speed. NHL is faster, he makes our team slower. He adds grit, usually draws penalties and one can say he made it to 3 cup finals and lost but did he produce? Indeed he did, did he get under other team's players skins, for sure. Depending on his contract and his performance, worst case he sits out, someone else draws in. We are weaker at RW and since Brown isn't doing nada this adds some insurance.
WE have little cap so contract must be cheap. Can understand why he chose the Oilers but very surprised he did not stay out East and goto the Rangers, Canes, Florida or Tampa instead.

I obviously want to win a cup, but losing a cup final is a big improvement on our record, is it not?? And quite a few teams lose a final before they win, so if Perry gets us to that point and teaches the "room" what it takes, I'm ok with that. we can also easily cut him loose if it doesn't pan out?

Sportsnet saying the bonuses total 325k max so i'm much happier about this signing now as it will max out at $1.1M if he hits all of them (still no specifics of what they are but it could even be 10 games and I wont care)

This signing was not necessarily at all. I don't like Perry. I am not happy with this and I think Holland might need to start planning on the best place to put his rocking chair. Maybe Perry can put his right beside.
This is right up there with signing Campbell and Brown.

Playoff experience is gold, no harm here. Oilers only have Kane and Nurse as fighters, we cannot afford them being in the box for 5 minutes, Perry helps there. The contract can be buried, no problems here either. |

The contract can be buried, no problems here either. Yuke, I agree with most of your post and only want to tweak one point. I don't think we are that bad off when it comes to fighting. Kane, Nurse and Perry are obvious but Ekholm, Desharnais, Kulak, Ceci and Bouchard are all pretty big boys that don't take any crap. In recent memory Ekholm, Desharnais and Kulak were all in fights. Bouchard has been chippy lately, a couple of the last few games the announcers were saying he and an opposing player were battling with each all night. Looking at our forwards McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman and even Nuge will not take any crap. Nuge has fought a few times and I think opponents would find McDavid, Draisaitl and Hyman a lot tougher than they bargained for. If anyone was foolish enough to go after them afterward having to face Nurse or Kane would certainly make them think twice about ever trying it again.

Skinner was listed at 235 now 207, if goalies are included. Point is, bigger will help. |

Perry has never been a speed demon, but has always got his points and has always added an element the oilers have lacked for over a decade. This is a similar signing to Kane except we were a lot more desperate when KH signed Kane. Also, he's not expected to come in and score like Kane was, he's purely supplemental and complimentary piece and therefore nothing like Brown or Soup. both those guys were signed for lots of money to be "difference makers"? Perry is just here to piss off everyone else in our conference and my guess is he'll do that superbly. his biggest skill in recent years is taking other teams players off the ice with him, although he was on a decent point pace on a truly lousy hawks team when the shiit hit the fan, suggesting he will more than likely contribute more in the points dept than Brown and deferring $300+k in cap to next year is a lot more palatable than the $3+M for Brown

True but Gags and Ryan are smaller players that are slower and older, Perry is a larger man that is older so he has an excuse to be slower lol. Nice to hear he used a power skating coach while he has been off here, see if that helps him. Either way Perry has the hockey IQ to be in the right spots like some players have the knack for.

Where is coach planning on slotting Perry in, beside LD or 3rd line? It would depend whom he replaces in the lineup. Gags does not PK, neither does Perry, so that's my guess. Don't want to mess with the Janmark/Brown, McLeod/Nuge/Foegele PK combos. Been very good for us. Janmark/Holloway/Perry could be a 3B line or our 3rd line if chemistry develops between Holloway and Perry. To start. How about a 3rd line of Holloway/McLeod/Perry followed by a 4th line of Janmark/Ryan/Brown or Gags? Could be a killer 3rd line, we shall see

It’s from The Score app. If you go into their preview of matchups it shows things like team offence and defence and size comparisons. And agree with you on the size. Still remember Eberle’s drop off in the playoffs.
