Flames have tremendous depth right now. He may not even make 10 because he may be shuttled in and out of the lineup based on the team we face that night. He may also spend much time down in the A. However, if he scores a few in the games he does play it is a good addition. Speed draws penalties and makes defensemen make mistakes down low. we are taking bets that he scores another 2 goals.. against Edmonton... in the same game... shorthanded.... on the same penalty kill. I was literally suicidal that day.

I think he's slotted to play the PK. Doesn't hurt when he's with Jankowski (5 PK goals last year) and Gio (4 PK goals). Flames do have a very good transition game, with Reider's speed who knows? Flames would need a sloppy Oiler PP for that to have a chance of happening.

Calgary has signed LW/C/RW Zac Rinaldo to a one year, two-way contract for $700K. They also signed Rieder to the same terms. I guess they liked what they saw in the preseason. The Flames are currently above the cap limit.

Zac Rinaldo is already on waivers. Dillon Dube will probably start the season in Stockton. Juuso Valimaki will be on LTIR, so the Flames should be about $300k under the Cap.

Let’s hope the avs crush the flames tonight! If MacKinnon can replicate what he did in the playoffs, he's McD's twin brother surrounded with good wingers. Very dangerous team.

I have to say on paper the Flames look like a complete team. The goalie situation is probably not going to be an issue unless Rittich gets injured long-term. They do have a tendency to have up and down years so it will be interesting if they can break the pattern and end within 98 - 102 pts range if not more. The pressure is on.
2014-15: 97 pts 2015-16: 77 2016-17: 94 2017-18: 84 2018-19: 107

Reigning Norris Trophy defense-man Flame's Captain Mark Giordano celebrates his 36th birthday today.
"Benny was telling me I'm closer to 40 now, than 30. Other than a few chirps here and there, that I absolutely can take, it's not a big deal. I feel good. I'm just as excited as I was when I was young. It's funny to get ripped a little bit on your birthday, 'cause you're old, but I feel good."

Center Mikael Backlund has been cleared to play in tonight's season opener. His lower body injury was minor, a few days of non-contact skating appears to have healed him up just fine.

Barring injuries, I predict that Czarnik and Rieder will be swapping the 12th/13th forward position all season long. Czarnik can provide a little more offense, but Rieder is the faster skater, and head Coach Bill Peters likes the look of him on the PK.
Dillon Dube (LW/C) and Alan Quine (C) will probably be the first injury call ups at forward.
