Sweet! Go Oilers! Yep, we shall see if Nurse plays. No predictions from me. Anyone? Nurse will play! Oh, you mean on the game and series??LOL! Refs will swallow whistles (not exactly nostradamus there) but it will mean McD and Drai will have to fight for every sq inch to have success and they will need to have success in order to for us to go anywhere (again captn obvious). I'm predicting Kane will open up space for mcD but he has a target on his back by aforementioned refs so it'll be interesting to see how aggressive he's allowed to be before we hit penalty trouble. Drai can handle himself but has to be careful the refs dont frustrate him as well and instead, rely on beast mode to break through again (A la 2017). PKers will need to be big and the big guys will have to not let the zebras rattle them but instead double down and fight through. I believe they will and we will win series in 6.

GAMEDAY WOOTWOOT!! Thanks for creating this thread bronco. Hopefully it's used well into June! I too will say Oilers in six vs the Kings though I do think we can absolutely do it in less. Nurse will play tonight, I read he was the first on the ice for morning skate today and had a full practice yesterday. Yes! I'll likely be running late to watch the game tonight but will have it on PVR and hope to join whoever is on here by first intermission. Can't Wait! GO OILERS GO !!

Sweet! Go Oilers! Yep, we shall see if Nurse plays. No predictions from me. Anyone? We finished 5 pts in front of LA after an 82 game season, and after obtaining more pts (104) than for the last 35 years (yes I know it is easier to gather pts nowadays with the OT situation) so my prediction is that this will be a very, very tough and close series. We are not playing mugs, and I would say that LA are a better team than both Chicago and Winnipeg were when they beat the Oil 3-1 and 4-0 in previous play off/in series. Mind you, so are the Oilers, a much better team. LA also a better road team than home, I think this is going to be a challenge for both teams, nothing to be taken for granted, may the best team win, and I don't mean the team wearing stripes.

Every playoff game is must win Bronc, but we aint winning anything if we keep shooting our selves in the foot. Hard to think of one area we even matched the Kings. Nvm outplay them, maybe PK? I guess we hang our hat and go from there ? We need to get the lead for starter’s

To me Quick outplayed Smith with some added luck. You have to shoot to hit the top half of the net to beat him, down low he's hard to beat. Obviously Smith with the costly mistake. Hopefully we move on and he ups his game like he's been doing for 2 months.
Not sure what's up with Pulj and why he's so up and down. He does make good plays but for the past while he is always deferring and shooting the puck around the boards for other players to do the work or the play dies with that. He's not all in, he's playing half hearted again. Kid is so up and down with his confidence. Played 7 minutes and was a -2.
After the loss pissy for sure. Oilers need to break this playoff curse and that needs to start with a win.

Quick is the guy I was worried about coming in, and that proved out last night. He was the difference IMO. Danault and Kopitar are the core of their lines, and they make for awful matchups. I thought McD and Drai played better in the 2nd and 3rd, but were dominated early. Looked like another game where they 'ease in to it and see how it goes'....we can't afford those 10-15 minutes.
Unfortunate that Smith had his first blunder in a while in game 1. Otherwise, I thought he was good. Nurse looked good, but blocked that shot with his wrist so hope that he's ok.
Also, because we deservedly bag on them, I thought that was a well officiated game.
Sucks to lose, but it was close enough to go either way. Gotta come back with the heat right from puckdrop in game 2.

4-1 Kings 5 on 5 that is a huge problem. We cannot rely on getting PP's to win or compete in this series because you know they are going to dry up.
Sorry Fogs but that Smith blunder has been brewing for about 10 games he has just been lucky they haven't been put in the back of the net before. The fact that the coaching staff hasn't told him that pass up the middle needs to stop is concerning. They can't just let him do what he wants. I told my wife a week ago he was going to cost us a game in the playoffs and bingo first game.
They decided to take the last two games off at the end of the season and it bit them in the Fogolin2 in this game when they got outworked more often than not.
Bruce McCurdy had a shocking stat today. In the last 7 playoff games we have been tied or ahead in every one going into the 3rd period and have lost all of them and have been out scored 14-1.

Oilers need to break this playoff curse and that needs to start with a win. Quick was better than Smith, but luck had nothing to do with that or any other part of the game. Problem with playoffs is that there's almost no time to correct mistakes, that's why making them is so costly and the team that makes the fewest usually wins. Coaching Decisions are also amplified, Do you give Smith another shot knowing if he's outplayed again we go 2-0 going to LA and are playoff hopes drop to single digits%? I'm not being negative, just posing a legit question Woody has to face. Smitty's biggest advantage is his puckhandling but LA nullified that by simply dumping into corners and using an aggressive forecheck to retrieve pucks and it worked to perfection. So much so Smitty tried to "force" something that just wasn't there (a rookie mistake) and without puckhandling, I believe Kosk is a better puck stopper? Next question for Woody is, what do you do with JP? I'm one of his biggest fans but he looked totally out of his depth last night and maybe he needs to sit and bring someone else up whose gonna contribute? I'll give Woody credit, he quickly realised this and dropped JP and restricted his minutes. FWIW, I think woody has no choice with Smitty, he has to go back to him and hope he calms down and plays like he did down the stretch. I also still believe JP "will" be a good player, but top 6 is not his place right now. Luckily, Yam proved me wrong and was actually our best Forward by a mile, so he was a ready replacement on McD's wing. I'm Not sure whether to try JP with Drai, it could be a formidable puck possession line, or give someone else that shot, another tough call for Woody. LA has its away win, next game will be even more clingy, trappy and skating through quicksand. Really hope the boys have another level or 2 to go as they're going to need it. A win I believe would exorcise a lot of demons and pressure, especially a well earned, controlled, structured win, so the guys actually start believing in the process again. Go Oil GO!

Quick was lucky several times. Looking behind him on a couple shots (Drai's shot where he lunged especially), all sprawled out and we don't get to the rebound, he cheats so far out of his net (it should end up costing him at some point) . Yep with the above stat and Smith is 0-10 in his last 10 playoff starts. Have to exercise those demons as said. We have been beating ourselves most of the time, last night was no exception.

Still , when i see quick's flailing, it somehow seems controlled or purposeful, Smith's just chaotic. Not sure what the diff is TBH, I think it has to do with Quick anticipating and Smith reacting? the diff between the 2 is about a 10th of a sec, sometimes that's all it takes?
