I think the plan the whole time, was to pick up the scraps, -middle 6 center -and a second pair LHD(Kulak upgrade) What do you define as "inactivity"? Not making a move or not making a sexy move? Cause he's obviously making calls and talk to other teams, as per Frank Seravalli. Holland has never made a big splash at Trade Deadline, even while in Detroit, so made lower expectations just a hair. 🤏 He makes bigger move in the summer. I no longer have expectations Toley Like KH, I'll sit back, maybe pick up my phone and watch whats been happening on the trade wire (hopefully he's a little closer than i am on twitter) and we'll see what happens? However, if he thinks he can wait till summer or nibble on some scraps and this team bows out in round 1 or gulp! Not make the dance, It wont be his problem to fix anymore and I'll be ok with that too I'm sure he's on it. I'm just saying look at his pattern. Won't know til April, if it was enough or not.

wholly crap that Meier deal was huge Well Jeannot's gone to TB so another good fit bites the dust (although the cost seems huge- 5 picks and Cal foote)! and this was a direct quote from GM Grier so looks like Karlsson is out as well (not that I was 100% sold on this depending on the price tag): The East has declared WWIII and are accumulating WMD's whereas most of the west (inc oil) have run to duck and cover

These prices are stupid and I'm glad Kenny isn't buying.

These prices are stupid and I'm glad Kenny isn't buying. At those prices he should be selling!! For context:😉: Tanner Jeannot 56 games played 5 goals 9 assists 5.7 sh% 0.992 PDO Jesse Puljujarvi 57 games played 5 goals 9 assists 5.8 sh% 0.965 PDO Sure Jeannot makes only 800k , so maybe drop cal Foote and take the picks🤷♂️🤷♂️

With Jeannot gone, my next hope is Lafferty and Jensen.

The one that just held his own on a scrap with Ryan Reaves makes less than a 3rd of the other. We're stuck with JP unless we pay to get rid of him.

I think he's a good fit, but I shudder at the prices I'm seeing right now. It's wild out there.

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere as I just woke up but McCabe and lafferty are leafs. I know a lot of folks on this board liked lafferty and imo the price for those two was a relative bargain to what else we are seeing. I hate leafs but Dubas knows they’ll be heading to another 1st round exit unless he matches punch for punch trade for trade. Kenny is keeping his powder dry but his old flintlock might not have anything left to shoot at soon🤣🤣

Haks even retain 50% of McCabe's salary. He is under contract for this year and the next two years. Lafferty this year and next year. So they didn't obtain rentals, got them to eat salary. Wonder what Holland is going to do... If Pulj goes we can make some noise as well, some. JC better start playing like he is paid to do. Had about enough. Here we were complaining about Koss, Koss was an All Star compared to him so far.

McCabe only had one Canadian team on his 10 team trade list. It's pretty easy to figure out which team that was and it wasn't us so he is a moot point.
Dubas knows this is his last kick of the can so he has gone all in. If it fails, yet again, whoever comes after him is Flamesed.

Yep, i guess Fog posted this in the more appropriate "around NHL thread" so my bad for posting it here and leading folks astray. You're right Gibb, there's a definite feeling this may well be Dubas's last kick at the cup, but deals like this aren't what will sink TO's future, as both guys are signed through next year and the cap hit for both is phenomenal relatively speaking. The fact he's mortgaged the future is a concern to TO fans I'm sure, but I think some teams' philosophy is that picks are a crap shoot, especially if you pick late in rounds cos your good to begin with? They think its better to trade them for known NHLers vs completely unknown and once you get beyond the 1st it becomes an even bigger crapshoot and so the quality of your scout Dept is a bigger determinant that anything else? At some point this philosophy will come crashing down as no matter how good your scout dept is, Its exceedingly rare to find a franchise-type player out of the 1st round but contending teams worry about that later and ironically, when the bell does finally toll, these teams crash really hard and you're seeing this with Hawks now. Ironically, this means they will get some really high 1st round picks when they do and this allows them to re-build the cycle from ground up (that's why I might puke a little if CHI gets bedard). TB has done this 2x already 1st with the Lecavalier/torts team which won a cup, then crashed burned and got rebuilt with Stamkos Hedman Vasi etc. the fact their scout dept picks up aces like point and kuch along the way makes the process quicker to get back to elite so they dont spend a decade wallowing like say us or Buffalo etc?

Late round draft picks value are in trade capital not future prospects. How many of the trades that happen don't include a bunch of draft picks? If you don't have them to trade you don't make trades. That's part of the reason why teams have traded their future away when they have devoid themselves of all their late round picks, they have greatly reduced their ability to make trades down the road. Too many people blow off lower round picks as worthless because they don't produce NHL players but they must be worth something to teams or they wouldn't constantly be added to trades. Many of these teams are also trading their player future away as well. It's not just NHL rosters that need to be filled. Tampa is without a first round pick for the next 3 years and no second for the next 2. Toronto doesn't have 2 of their next 3 1st rounders and no 2nd round picks for the next 4 years.

Ideally you'd like to let your bottom six price themselves out and bring in serviceable drafted prospects and keep rotating cheap players in and out, with the core players. In theory, but in practice, it a little more difficult. I think Tampa is pretty much at their limit of rotating player in and out, their window is tied to Vasilevskiy

I wont be surprised if Jeannot becomes a 25Goal scorer and tough as nails and good defensively (ie better version of debrusk or anderson in MTL). If that happens and honestly, who bets against TB these days, then the price starts to make sense, especially if your 1st rounders are always in the 28-32 range

This interview made me laugh out loud🤣 Not because it’s sad the excuses KH is making, but because someone had “faked” and put up Kenny interview on twitter a few hours earlier from last year of him saying we are getting a tdl acquisition and his name is Evander Kane🤣🤣 Then the goofball comes out with the same line a few hours later in interview with Brar🤣🤣🤣🤣 . You can’t make this up🤣🤣 Hopefully I can find the “fake” posting and post it too cos when I went by it 1st time I just thought “nice troll” but fake🤣. I can’t wait to see what we do get by Friday if anything, but man this is solid gold comedy!

I hope we go after Tyler Bertuzzi once the wings decide to sell I seem to remember him saying he doesn't want to play in Canada cos of the vax etc? Not sure he's changed his mind since rules have been relaxed? If he truly desires to come here then I'm all for it, he's certainly a guy that would help. He could become our Lawson Crouse (I coveted him for over a year but I dont think there's anyway in hell Yotes give up him now).
