I should have started this thread awhile ago but better late then never. A place to discuss our schedule and/or positioning in the standings. So here we are about to head into Feb. after a perfect Jan. and a win streak dating back to Dec 21. Good times indeed. Anyway... A look ahead: FEBRUARY - 12 games 6 home, 6 away 2 sets of back-to-backs - one home and one away 8 games vs teams in (current - Jan 29) playoff position, 4 games vs non-playoff teams 1 five game homestand, 2 three game road trips MARCH - 15 games 7 home, 8 away 3 sets of back-to-backs - one spit and two away 5 games vs current playoff teams, 10 vs non 1 four game homestand, 1 four game road trip, 1 three game road trip APRIL - 10 games (last game 18th) 5 home, 5 away 3 sets of back-to-backs - one home, one away, one split 6 games vs current playoff teams, 4 vs non 1 four game homestand Home/away is kinda moot, as well as vs playoff/non. Lots of back-to-backs (8), homestands and road trips. Jam packed schedule the closer we get to game 82. Stay healthy boys. The Canucks and Bruins currently lead the lead with 71pts in 49gp each while our beloved Oil currently sit at 59pts in 45gp as we go into the All-Stars break. www.nhl.com/standings/2024-01-29/league Let's say, just to keep us honest, we go 2-2 to make up the 4 games we trail. That would out us at 63 pts hypothetically, and only 8 pts behind. I do not think it is out of the realm of possibility atm that we could catch them. There is still 30+ games left in the season and much can and will change but I don't see this as impossible. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here but hey we have 10 days off so time to dream, ha. Most importantly is that we get to the playoffs with a healthy squad. If that happens, look out. GOG!

That april schedule looks really crowded to me. i hope we've cemented our playoff spot by then and can rest a few of the core in the last week going into the playoffs. I agree HH, staying healthy is more important than winning the div, although winning the div would be nice?

Nicely done Happy, whether we are riding hot or not so hot, yep injuries or even if no injuries not being spent/tired out going into the playoffs. After this break it's every 2nd night for 37 games, just under half a season. Heavy March schedule, 10 games in 18 days in April. Who made up this schedule anyways? It is a concern, but we have added some depth. On D let's be realistic, our 6 D have been very healthy, including last year. Unusually healthy. Broberg is the next man up but would be nice to have added proven depth.
One thing few are talking about is our goalie depth. I mean, what if Skinner gets hurt and is out a month? Is JC capable with Picks to keep us on track? Even in the playoffs? This is my biggest areas of concern, our unusually healthy D that are healthy enough to play (and sometimes not playing as well, such as Nurse, Ceci, Kulak and Eks) and our goalies.
If we can flip JC and get a solid 1B such as Reimer, Blackwood, etc think this would be a good thing. Picks becomes our 3rd goalie as insurance. Not Picks being our 2nd goalie and JC being our 3rd goalie as insurance. Hey, Adin Hill did it last year so nothing is impossible. We were getting to Broissoit, until he got injured and Hill stepped in. Then Hill was lights out. Grrrr

All reports I read say coach and above are satisfied with our current group (hard not to argue). I Totally hear what u r saying though. Stu is our man, and he will be the 2nd or 3rd player to hoist the cup in late June. Book it.

I get the feeling that Campbell will be up here for a stint after the TDL. If they wanted to look at him earlier, we’d have to waive Pickard and there’s a lot of speculation he would get picked up. I’m hopeful that whoever is up here, that we can play Skinner 50% of the time in April, to give Skinner rest and to get #2 ready.

Send down a winger and play 11 and 7 if needed. But I dont want Campbell here this year unless you need to play him to finalize his trade

I get that feeling too AO. I think Picks would get picked up for sure if put on waivers. It's a small sample size but in 8 NHL games this year (7 games starter) he is 5-2-0, 2.34GAA, .915%. Hard to argue with them numbers. Please don't put him on waivers. Maybe not this year but down the road, I get the feeling Skins is like a Helly or Sorokin of the league. He wants to play every single game (he's stated that numerous times) but obviously that is not advisable lol. I do think he has the endurance to pay 60-65 games as well as a playoff run. I could be wrong. But he talks the talk, and now walks the walk..

He has really impressed me after the bad start, he has been excellent and you can see the effort to learn and continue getting better. He's giving everything you can ask of your goalie.

Just arrived in Edmonton. Maybe I will take in an Oiler game while I’m here. Oh wait I can’t, the Oilers have 10 days off in a row during the season

Should be much better then recent years. McD played a big part in creating the comps this year. We shall see. I enjoyed the draft last night. It was goofy, but still fun.

Loss to Knights stings. Really makes our 5 games in hand on them all that much more important with us being 7 pts back of them now. Gotta get that home-ice advantage. We win that game and I think we could have got to 20 in a row also, just sayin. Anyway, I'm over it I swear lol.
Checking the sched I see neither the Ducks and Kings will have played a game since the A-Star break yet come Fri/Sat when we play them. That's got to bode well for us as they probably won't be at their best. Not to mention they are two slumping teams. I see these games as wins. After that, no idea.
Basically starting Saturday we play teams battling for their playoff lives the remainder of the month, a whole whack of bubble teams. Throw in Dallas and Boston, two elite teams that are both playing great, and we have ourselves some big challenges coming up here.

I'm wary of the new coach bounce with LA and they have everything to play for. it will be interesting to see how knobby chooses the goalies? I think we can easily beat ducks with average tending (not that Picks has been only average, he's been great in relief), so i'd stick him in and go with Stu in LA as some players may feel that B2B and we'll need a great performance in that game to win IMO

One month ago to the day on Jan 29th when this thread was created, March had us playing 5 teams in a playoff position, and 10 teams in non-playoff spots. Today, that all remains the exact same. Something I did not realize until now though was that in March we play a ton of Eastern teams. After Seattle on the 2nd, 10 of the next 11 will be against the Eastern conference, with the lone Western Conf game being vs the Avs on the 16th. After that you ask? March 26th is the beginning of our final 13 games to conclude the season, all vs the West. While I was hopeful before we could catch the Knuckleheads (and we still can!), the realist in me tells me it's unlikely as we've made up little ground, but hey ya never know. That said, I do believe we'll pass Vegas (watching them play the Bruins right now and they are getting lit up 3-0 in the 1st hehe - love it!) and I'm hoping we can also get ahead of the likes of the Avs and Stars, and possibly even the Jets in the standings, for home ice reasons come playoff time. 25 games left, season is winding down!
