I wonder how much the Doughty-Tkachuk soap opera plays into the game...

First period against LA was ALL kings. 2-0, shots 20-3, that's despite LA getting the only penalty in the period. Flames going to either come out screaming in the second or lay down and play dead. I'm hoping for option 2

picking up right where they left off last season. last minute goals on a lucky bounce or missed call. This one an obvious high stick that the homer refs "missed". non-call gave them a point.

First period was terrible for the Flames and cost us the game. Lucic had a very good game. Flames that deserve to be pointed out Bennett had a badly disciplined game, the first line didn't stand out and Monahan looked slow and unengaged, Monahan looked apathetic on some crucial faceoffs. Tkachuck and Mangiapane looked really good, engaged, and were by far our best forwards. Our goaltending was steady and abandoned by the team in the first period. Again, Calgary needs to learn how important it is to be ready at the start of games/or season for that matter.
So far the Oilers have won the trade between the 2 teams. 5 goals? 4 of them PP? Neal would never had them with Calgary. I'm still happy with the trade and what Lucic has done overall in Calgary, Neal was an anchor here.

Both Teams are getting what they hoped for from that trade! Oilers a top 6 winger, Flames a top level enforcer. I know which one I prefer for $6M!! I hope the trade works out for both players. Most Oiler fans liked Looch, just hated his contract and the unspoken clause that went with it (i.e Hall had to be traded to make Looch McD's default 1st choice left wing). That's the part that still ticks me, but neither are his fault, that can all be laid at the feet of Chiapet.

Lucic tonight looked every bit an enforcer, just his size does that. He did make some very good adept passes too. Had a chance or 2 out front of the net. He put in a good effort tonight, he played well in 2 of 3 games so far. Tkachuck is unbelievable for a man his age. The pressure intense going into the game and he was clutch for the team tieing it in the 3rd with seconds left. Then Bennett does the unthinkable and gets lazy with stick in the feet of an opposing player. Tkachuck is a winner, Gio is a winner, the team can learn from these 2 players. Bill Peters has always turned the team around at crucial times last year, especially after a drubbing by the Penguins, the Flames need some smelling salts and quick.

I'm sure a few people are counting. If Neal keeps going at this pace throughout the season Gretzky's goal record is in jeopardy!

So far Edmonton has won the trade no doubt. It'll be interesting to see how Neal deals with adversity going forward. I'm happy with Lucic so far this season overall, so long as he continues what he's doing.

What Lucic does or does not do until then is of little significance to Calgary.

Dallas-Calgary game, Calgary wins in OT. Overall team play was good, 1st line is disappointing me. Although Gaudreau and Monahan won it in the shootout, the regulation and 5 min OT was less than impressive. Monahan just makes bad decisions on passes and gives up the puck far too many times. If not for his shot I'd want him moved to the 2nd line. I think he'll turn it around at some point, but right now just not a #1 center in the NHL. Hanifin is showing lots of speed, anticipation, and good vision. Hopefully Gio's insight is rubbing off on the highly touted younger defenseman. Tkachuck again was clutch with turning over the tieing goal for the game. Without Tkachuck I believe the Flames would be winless so far this season.
