Yes, all joking aside you are definitely right about that. I know I'll never be able to afford to splurge by going to an NHL game in the near future or maybe even quite a few years. I really wish it was different, but here we are. I would love to be able to take my wife and two kids to a game one of theses years. It’s just very expensive by the time I travel, hotel, tickets, food etc. Maybe this winter. I think it’s going to be very hard to get tickets even with a full stadium. People are excited to get out and do this type of thing. Be cheaper if you flew to Carolina and watched a game there.

Yes no kidding. It’s weird how it can be that way.

With Nurse being from Ontario it amazes me how the population and media out east have nothing good to say about Nurse and this contract will handcuff the Oilers? Oh did you also know because of this deal McDavid and Draisaitl will both be gone because of it? 1. If Nurse wanted out or became available these same disgruntled people would be first inline talking about it is almost as a guarantee he will be a Leaf and to plan the Stanley cup parade! They'd be pumping the contract value that he is Norris material after all. 2. Why is it every player move we make, if we do not make the playoffs, if we don't succeed in the playoffs or if it rains in Edmonton our eastern foes are almost certain this will be the cause for Connor especially to bolt from the franchise? It must really bother them three former Leaf's have jumped ship to the Oilers...I bet Barrie's success last year has them on Xanax...will they be jumping from bridges if Hyman and Ceci follow that success? we can only Hope! 3. Keep comparing Matthews to Mcdavid...the world knows who the best player is and it's a crying shame to make this comparison as Matthews is not in his shadow he is in Leons shadow! Yes, the Center of the Universe sure has a bi-polar bias way of looking things... from inside their glass houses they throw rocks at Nurse's contract, like the whole Nylander situation which resulted in Marner's boosted contract never happened.... then there's Tavares'.... the TO media is a shame and a disgrace to hockey.

Jeff O'Neil has to be the most out of touch person I have ever heard speak about the game and it's Players...

Wow. Had to dig deep to find a Darnell Nurse thread. Love the way he’s playing lately even if he still backs in way too much. Even seen a few of the media saying he’s finally earning his contract. And that goal tonight….

Nurse lately has been playing very good defensive hockey. I can't remember the last time I cursed at him, and for a while it was almost every game. Instead of reading and making bad plays, he's now making good plays and reading the play like a seasoned veteran Dman should be reading them. This is the kind of play that will help us make the playoffs and will continue to help well into the playoffs.

He got the WTF from me last game when Toffili gave him the toe drag with little time left. Picker saved his bacon. But yes, he has kept his game simpler which makes him a better player IMO.

That's the thing, no player is perfect. They all make mistakes, the trick is to limit those mistakes to as few as possible. If all I see from our D corps is a few mistakes all game, I'll take it compared to the keystone cops skits our D were performing at the start of the season. You'll never get to the promised land if your backend is a gong show the whole game.

There is a lot going right for the Oilers right now and it's mostly the improved D and an improved Skinner. Skinner is getting most of the love and I think it is deserved and the bigger story, but the fact that Darnel Nurse has settled down his game and focussing on mainly good D and letting the offense come more naturally is just as important. Nurse's story is not as big simply because his salary dictates that is what he should be doing. While yes, he should be doing this anyway, the big story is that he wasn't.....but now he is!! The implications of Nurse earning his salary could well mean the difference between a cup or no cup. I'm serious, think about it. Nurse not earning his salary equals him being an albatross dragging the Oilers down with him by handcuffing the team's play and being untradeable with that salary. On the flip side now we have the player we need going forward and he's earning his salary making it a non story and making Nurse the type of Dman desired by the whole league.
These are big factors. Nurse earning his contract, huge! Skinner improving, not just improving, but improving considerably, huge! Ekholm playing like a beast and his partner Bouchard turning into an elite Dman before our eyes, huge! The D as a whole playing a decent defensive game, huge! Foegele and McCleod on the 2nd line producing like top six players, huge! Rolling all 4 forward lines and getting results from all of them, huge! Keep this going, huge!

I was a bit reluctant at first to give credit to the new coaching staff as I felt this team was just too good not to start winning regularly anyway, but the more and more I see them play, the more and more I've become impressed with how the D look so much more composed (I'm giving Coffey credit here even though I thought it a mistake at first to bring him in). I'm also starting to really like how Knobby is utilising the forwards. Nothing too drastic, just more even distribution of playing time (something woody got away from) and Knobby seems to have a really good feel for which guys are going and which guys may need to spend a bit more time on the bench? I believe the combo of the above makes life a lot easier for Stu. I think we all agree its symbiotic in that better play from the team results in better goaltending and better goaltending results in better team play. Everything points to the above coaching change was JJ's doing so I'm really curious now as to what's going to happen at TDL and in off-season? I can't imagine that KH will be allowed to make any decisions now, because whoever comes in in the off-season, has the gigantic task of dealing with the brown soup legacy? Maybe KH can redeem himself with one last phone call to Staios to see if he wants swap problems for problems?? Rumour has it that Sens are planning a major team shake up??

I know some, especially Habs fans, might consider this blasphemy but nowadays his playing looks an awful lot like Big Bird's. That's huge for us if he can keep it going.

This new team maturity is refreshing and much needed but no where is it more important or impressive than with Darnel Nurse and his new approach to defense. Nurse is a beast who is now focussing on good solid D first and the offense if and when it is there. He's not forcing it anymore and taking stupid chances. I love this new version of Nurse, it's who he was drafted to be and the more I think of it, like SD said he does remind me of Robinson in some ways. Keep it up Nurse, you are a big factor in the Oilers chances of actually winning the cup.
I was almost done and then I thought of how nice it has been since I no longer swear at the TV over Nurse's stupid pinches or turnovers. I know he was just one of many, but his contract made it so much worse. A guy paid that much making so many stupid plays that ended up in our net was just too much to take silently. It's such a relief and dream come true now that he's turned it around.

I'd love to see a little of his earlier years "nasty" come out from time to time, but realise you dont want him sitting in the box for extended lengths of time. But the occasional "losing it" on someone, will keep a lot of rival players off-kilter and keep them from crashing the crease as often as they do now, but yeah nurse is becoming a leader on the back end for sure!

I think the "nasty" is still there, he just let's it out when he needs to. It's probably because the refs seem to be hard on Nurse the same way they are with Kane. I like that you see Nurse patrol around the net giving the stink eye, this is one of the things that reminds me of Robinson. He doesn't hesitate to clear the net if someone gets out of line.
