Might seem rich on front end, hopefully he turns into the Norris winner fans are projecting.

Might seem rich on front end, hopefully he turns into the Norris winner fans are projecting. I am more concerned about the back end. We know more or less what we are getting or going to get on the front end, but in 8 years (ala Hyman) no one really knows, not a GM, not a coach, certainly not us fans, and more than likely, not even the player can predict his level of play 8 years hence. I can shoot 82 one day, might not break 90 the next.........any contract this long (and I know it happens all the time in the NHL/sports) is an unpredictable animal. Will Darnell turn into the Lion King in 8 years, or the Lion in Wizard of Oz, ie lacking in courage? Time will tell.

You have got to be kidding me. Nurse deserves to get paid, but this is ridiculous. We now follow the Toronto model with 3 huge contracts, how are you suppose to fill in the core with good players to win?
Shocked!

Once Zack Werenski signed that huge deal, this is where it was going to be. Frickin wild..... At least one of the huge contracts is a dman, so that's different from the Leafs model....

For once it’s not the oilers gm setting the bar too high, kh wasn’t left with any choice on this one once werenski, Jones makar et al signed their huge contracts. He’ll be 33 when it expires so maybe he’ll have something left in the tank like Keith😉😉😉

Wow. The money these guys are getting is ridiculous! How do any of these high paid players expect us to ever build a contender with us having to pay this kinda money out. Sports players are way over paid. Makes me wonder if I should find something else to do rather then support this kinda thing. They always say they have short careers etc. Then go and find another job when your done playing a game for the first 3rd of your life just like the rest of society has to do when they lose a job.

Don't they have a pension too through the NHLPA?

Less percentage of the cap than Draisaitl's was when he signed his 8.5M contract.
I think we'll be fine.

I remember getting a $4 dollar an hour raise many years ago and felt like I won a lottery. One thing is known, when todays modern NHL player is in retirement you will not find them in the Cat food isle buying Dinner.

It is what it is🤷♂️ If PC had given Nurse an 8yr contract at $5M+ when he had an opportunity to, everyone would have deemed it another stupid pc signing. GMs basically have 2 options, sign a guy before he’s reached peak, to long term extensions hoping they over deliver and are not a flash in the pan, or wait till they reach peak and pay the going market rate and hope the contract doesn’t become an albatross too quickly. In this case PC missed the former and kh has no choice but to choose the latter. This one isn’t on kh as his only other option would be to trade him this season and guys like nurse don’t go on trees and are essential to any successful club

This is bitter sweet. I like Nurse and glad he signed long term. I just don't understand how these players can justify this type of pay. The agents are little more than blood sucking leeches and are wrecking the game. GM's should do a double take on all the buy-out contracts. Holland is handing out money like halloween candy. Right now the Oilers are paying about $4.5 mil for absolutely nothing (penalties) and are currently over the cap. I still think the team is better than it was but the contracts are too high. Hyman should accepted a contract in line with RNH. Nurse should not be getting more than Draisaitl. Pressure is now on and he just sat down under a microscope. He will need to be a beast out there.

He better continue to get better. It's a lot of money and term for half a season of top flight play. In the grand scheme of pro sports though it's a pittance. Kevin Durant is about to sign a 4 year $198 Million dollar deal at 32 years old and Messi's last contract was $675M over 4 years.

I don't expect we will see significant improvements based on a higher salary, I think we will continue to see the same game he brings.

Ridiculous. Outright ridiculously idiotically unabashed stupidity.

So first we over pay to bring Keith here.
Then we lose Larsson.
Then we spend way too much on Hyman.
Then we sign Ceci for too long.
Then we miss out on goalie trades.
Then we pay too much to extend Nurse.
Our forwards do look a lot better but we had better hope this team can win it all within a couple years. If we don't, this entire organization is absolutely clucked.

No hometown discount... I wonder what Nuge and his agent are thinking at this point? As I think about it more it's starting to piss me off. Do these guys not give a Kuzmenko about the team? Do they really think that cashing in and being surrounded by league minimum players is the recipe to the Stanley Cup? With the money being gifted I expect to see the Stanley Cup back in Edmonton! We shall see how this team stacks up when they are not playing the same opponents over and over.
