Montreal also had Weber-Petry-Chiarot-Price on their backend. Calgary doesn't have a group at that level. They're going to have to score, and they don't have the forwards to outgun many teams. Coleman helps, but Lucic will probably regress. Monahan? Who knows? It'll be up to Tkachuk and Gaudreau to carry the offensive load and I'm not sure they're up to it. Markstrom could have a great year and keep them in a lot of games. A lot of "ifs". I feel better about the changes we've made, that's for sure. Pretty much my thoughts exactly Fog. I'm quite hopeful we can challenge Vegas for top spot and a lot would have to go wrong for us not to make playoffs. Flames however need an awful lot to go right just to get in playoffs! We shall see, Reg season is getting closer and my anticipation and optimism are as high as they've been in quite a few years!!!! Fwiw, the sports books have the Flames playoff chances as a pick em, and the Oil marginally favored to get in. From Oddshark: Beyond the Golden Knights, this division is as tight as it gets in hockey. The Edmonton Oilers (-325), Seattle Kraken (-135), Calgary Flames (-115), Vancouver Canucks (+145), and Los Angeles Kings (+215) will likely be battling it out for those final playoff spots.
The San Jose Sharks (+250) and Anaheim Ducks (+1600) will likely sit at the bottom of the division.

I had us winning the exhib game last night 4-1, guess I gave the flames too much credit, hehe. Pre-season and "meaningless" or not, gotta love it! To give the flamers a little slack (though like mentioned they had plenty regs in the line-up) a lot of the rest of their players are new to their org and learning their systems. They looked lost out there most the game and were chasing us all night long. Twas fun to watch, hehe. As for our team, zero complaints here! Solid tending (flames goalies were good too but ours were better...though barely challenged), and our lines and pairings all seemed to have unison and were in sync. Not once did it seem like the flames were a threat though I missed the first ten minutes of game. Loved our speed and puck control/ownership. We really dominated in all facets of the game except "Hits" but hey if they want to chase us around all night and look for that big hit while we rack up the goals, I am totally ok with that! GOG!!

I can't wait for the Yotes to trade picks and cap space to the Leafs for Matthews, pick first, and have good team in a one year rebuild. Leafs fans are going to Kuzmenkoing lose it and it's going to be great.

I would love to see it.

Arizona not in our division this coming season.....hence no mention in predictions. Good catch Hawk! Bad news for Yotes though, they might have had a chance of reaching 75pts in pacific, I'd be surprised if they crack 65 in central? Hope they survive long enough to make that bid for Matthews, I kind of like going down to zona to watch the odd away game, have done it 2x and planned to do it a lot more, then "you know what hit"!

I was listening to Nurse's interview after practice yesterday and I was so impressed with what he had to say about still wanting to improve his game. He was saying that he wants to be known as one of the best defenders in the game and to do so he needs to continue to improve his game. He was saying there is still much he wants to improve at and to be one of the best he needs to play at that level for multiple years in a row, just like great players do. It's great to hear him say that he intends on putting in the work to get there. If he backs up his words, he'll be well worth his hefty salary. I have to admit that even though I was glad to keep him, the size of that contract worried me. I'm not nearly as worried after hearing that interview.

Only pre season but this is the best group in training camp that I have seen in a long time. There are going to be some tough decisions to be made which is a very good thing. I personally think Archie is making a mistake because I feel there are a few guys that we have at camp that could fill his role quite easily and may possibly be even better.

I feel that Archie is slightly stronger than guys like Sceviour, Benson, etc. he makes 1.5 mil compared to 750-800k but he does bring the sandpaper, good d, good pk (helped to be near the top in the league). Depends if that extra $ is worth it or not.
We lost JJK who was good on the pk, would hate to lose both. Archie has also moved up and down the lineup. Sceviour however can play all 3 forward positions which is a plus. So can Turris. Really is a crapshoot but 6 more preseason games to iron things out. If Archie gets the "V" and comes in shape it really is his job to lose (or give away)

He is also the guy who took a major penalty v Winnipeg last season when we were 4-1 up and that turned the game on its head.
