Archie is our energy guy. Gets guys going from his " nobody is to big to hit" style. He is also the guy who took a major penalty v Winnipeg last season when we were 4-1 up and that turned the game on its head. When pointing to the "little things" that beat us in last year's playoffs, Tipp identified this as one of the biggest and for sure cost us that game and maybe any chance of a comeback series. Archie would have been given plenty of chances to show it was just a "brain fart" and he was in a position where a spot was all but guaranteed unless he F'd up. I'm thinking his 2nd Brain Fart may well have cost him his place in the line up. He was a great energy guy when in the line up, but i'm thinking the energy felt might be a bit different now? I wish him good luck no matter how this pans out, but he's not essential to this current teams success, so if we move on, we move on and give someone else a chance to be "that guy"!

Just watched Tipp's pregame vs Winnipeg and was asked about Archie and why. Evidently Archie feels something wrong and is currently being tested for something. All the Covid tests (4) have come back negative but he still feels not right. The test results will be back soon and hopefully they'll all know what's going on. He said that's why he doesn't want to get vaccinated just yet until they find out.

OK we are not supposed to discuss this subject (why I have no idea but do intend to follow rules on here) but it is a valid question to ask. It will after all affect the Oilers team selection process. All the other Oiler/NHL Canadian players have done the "right" thing, why not Josh Archibald? That is all I will say/ask on this subject before mods intervene.

I feel that Archie is slightly stronger than guys like Sceviour, Benson, etc. he makes 1.5 mil compared to 750-800k but he does bring the sandpaper, good d, good pk (helped to be near the top in the league). Depends if that extra $ is worth it or not. We lost JJK who was good on the pk, would hate to lose both. Archie has also moved up and down the lineup. Sceviour however can play all 3 forward positions which is a plus. So can Turris. Really is a crapshoot but 6 more preseason games to iron things out. If Archie gets the "V" and comes in shape it really is his job to lose (or give away) Perlini ?

Kass is from Windsor, I'm rooting for him but if he plays like he did last year and the year before he should be the odd man out. We'll see if the fans help to motivate him. Or someone like Keith.

So far, he's chosen not to come to work. We gotta have a plan in place. I think everyone here knows how much I appreciated Archie's play, even though he's not a great player. He found ways to make a difference with the tools at his disposal. If it's not him, I'll cheer for the next man up. edit: as I posted that, I wonder what the team's reaction will be. We've seen guys get traded. We've seen guys choose free agency. We've seen guys lost to injury or sickness. We've never seen anything like this. I really wonder how the room is reacting.

I'm sure there are plenty of players in the room that consider Archie a friend and have a better understanding of his decisions than outsiders trying to look in. Their reaction thus far has been 'no comment' to avoid throwing fuel on the fire. The players realize the team first position management will have to deal with regarding his roster spot. I'm sure to a man in the room understand, no player other than the elite is irreplaceable. Archie has been a pro long enough to know this as well. His decision, like all life choices, has consequences going forward.

My outside observations are that he's well-liked by his team mates and management obv likes him because they re-upped him over the several "archie-types (ennis etc) they let go. But one of the first things players learn in the NHL is that it's a business and that they are "a commodity" whose value goes up and down. Archie has made himself worthless as a NHL player, to not only the oilers but every other franchise as well. Whether he can bring his value back up is entirely in his hands, but he is in the "class of player" that once gone, is quickly forgotten, both by his team mates and the fans since the "rules of the game" say; you/they have to invest everything in his replacement (as Fog stated: It's next man up). He must know this and as i stated earlier, i wish him good luck no matter what he decides, but he was never in a position to hold a gun to anybody's head (he's not Eichel, not even close).

watched game on Seattle tv station. The one announcer was elated they're 3-1 now and can hardly wait for the season to start. The only game they've played against a majority NHL squad were the Oil and it was 6-0. Be careful what you hope for sport, once the season begins for keeps, they (announcers) may be in for a bit of a shock. Last night they played a team that was mainly AHL and really didn't look that good. Now that being said Skinner was excellent but was seeing the puck all night. They also said how good the PK was.

Koss played well to ight. Tips interview was fun by but very serious. Broberg best game, not a good one for Bouch. Beautiful backhand saucer by drain in the game winner, Tip made short work of that with his comments.

My lord....that first goal against...wtaf was Kassian doing along the boards? And Bouchard got roasted on 2 of the goals. Ugly ugly stuff. Agree with Tipp's comments. Cute win, but some really awful play in our own end.

I'm hoping that he uses this to work harder on his defensive game and learn from the experience. This is why it will be important to have him paired with someone who can help him through the experience of rough moments like that. I noticed Kassian up way too far on the boards also. What was he doing that far up the boards is a good question? He must have been expecting Bouchard to gather up the puck and send it down ice, but it put him too far out of the play to be of any help if things went wrong....and things went wrong. I hate to say that I noticed that from Kassian the last couple of seasons, taking the lazy way expecting an offensive rush instead of playing a safer game.

I see Kass constantly doing that for a number of years. Can’t bother to move a couple of feet to go get the puck. He just sits there and waits for it. It has bothered me for quite a while and I have mentioned it. Is it the coach that asks him to stay there? Is he too lazy? Is he brain farting? For god sakes someone show him the video cause it’s pathetic.

No, I would not believe any coach would tell Kass to play like that, yes it does appear he's getting lazy and most definitely that would be a brain fart to think he can get away with playing like that. I agree, make him watch the video and explain what he was thinking at that time. We should be able to expect better from a returning vet.

You see it multiple times in a game with Kass. Guess it must be laziness and if it is why hasn’t it been addressed a long time ago.

Looked like the Oilers of old. On the goals scored against the Jets player was wide open. Terrible D. Bouchard looked a little tired. On a good note, liking Griffin. Guy gets no love but he is hanging in there and should be in the mix.

In other news similar to Stalock, Archie will be out indefinitely. Not good news, not good at all!
