We do not have a "Soup" thread. Now we do. Helluva preseason. He keeps that play up and that's a massive game changer come playoff time. Very early but all signs look great with Jack. He seems calm, relaxed yet dialed in. I believe he's earned the starter's net Wednesday.

From everything I've heard he deserves to be the starter opening night.

From everything I've heard he deserves to be the starter opening night. And this dates all the way back to last march. He's been nothing short of amazing since then. .930 in regular season since march 5 and a lights out .960 in the playoffs. I truly believe Woodcrofts' refusal to give him starts in the playoffs is what cost us the cup. He's earned his place in our net. He's paid to be our starter, he needs to be given the chance to prove it.

Actually I believe this too, but I'll add Nurse and a few others could have been better also hence the new "zone" defense in the defensive zone.

Good others are seeing it.
Soup will have a bad spell of games like any goalie this year. Key is not to get down in the dumps this time. Be like Mike Smith, he would have a bad month then bounce back strong. Soup, has a history of staying down and being too hard on himself though.

We just need average goaltending. Come on Soup. Exactly!! We only need .910-.915 tending to be a cup fav. if we had that last playoffs we would have won IMO. i'm just not as convinced as Bronc that soup would have provided that for us if he had gotten the starts and not relief back up roles? (Even though i do agree woody should have given him the starts once Stu had shat the bed a few times

Soup did keep the puck out in his relief appearance but he was a fricking yardsale in there. Maybe he would have calmed down, but I didn't want to see him get a start. Too risky imo Got a good feeling about our duo going in to this year though.

Come on Jack. Please. Be average. might have to start call him Miso - thin, watery, not much substance. and if the d are supposed to be the "meat" then this is obviously a vegetarian dish!!

none of that tonight was on Campbell. Campbell was the star of the game Just some gallows humour none of this was on soup or stu, just a compete clusterKuzmenko from the entire team. The most disappointing/worrying part was how quickly and easily our 2 stars became frustrated, yet they were =parts to blame in all this but pouted instead of manned-up when things started to go sideways? Frustration at a new D-system that clearly didn't work maybe?? I know some d-systems rely more heavily on the goalie making the first save, I'm just openly wondering if this system lends itself to the type of goalies we have or impedes it?? I felt the D were getting in the way of sight lines a lot in this game and as a result the goalies weren't tracking the puck or play very well. interested to here what the goalies in the forum think??

I dont know too much about "Hockey D-systems" tbh, but I'd have thought it would make sense to have more than 1 system to fall back on given that some NHL teams play a vastly different style to others? A "1-size fits all" philosophy to defense seems like an inherently bad idea as it allows opposition to focus on exact ways to make it vulnerable. It took all of about 10mins of that game to realise that what they were trying was failing dismally and the coach maybe should have tried changing it up before it got too out of hand? The guys definitely looked confused, so unless the system was to act like keystone cops (I have seen that implemented lots in the past), I wonder how long they'll persevere with this new system?? A result like this definitely raises a lot of questions?

A result like this definitely raises a lot of questions? That result had nothing to do with systems. It had everything to do with lack of effort and not being smart. Kulak trying to knock a puck out of the air instead of taking the man, Bouchard losing battles in the corners on two goals, giving the puck away on a third and being soft on another play that resulted in him taking a bad penalty that resulted in a goal, Nurse standing directly infront of the goalies not taking anyone on two goals and a terrible pinch on a third are not system failures they are lack of effort and stupidity failures.

The effort was missing no doubt, but when guys are unsure, they hesitate. hesitation leads to, or at least looks like lack of effort. I think it could have been a combo of both, but a much stronger effort would have kept the score more respectable at very least. For me, it' best to "think" it was partly due to system breakdown and confusion, because if it was only because of complete lack of effort, then there is no real cure for that, other than blowing it up, and i've become kinda of invested in this group to win a cup at some point??

Don't look now, I read Jack is 920% over his last ten starts, is at .904 on the Condors now. The better he plays, the more his value improves for us. Not a bad thing anyway. Rodrigue is at an impressive .924% in the meantime.

Watched personaly many of their games and to me we are beating teams handily, the big club is doing very well and it rubs off on our minor team. JC has some work to do still.
