Um no, with a low prospect pool and not much for draft picks you address it now. You think we were attacked for no reason, by chance, there is PURPOSE to it. Two other teams wanted to do the same apparently. Please go ahead to the pay your old team which can do damage this year (which is fine as long as you take care of the youth) and paying top players the max contracts model going forward. Deal with it later is not a solution. As posted on a controversial board where anything Oilers goes no matter what without common sense. All of the players are the cream of the crop and in the highest regard. Stamkos cheaper this year, Tampa lost their franchise player but he is less not more at 34. Hi. Kane, the best of the best, now 35 has gone from 10.5 to 2.4 and 4 million. Keith, our buddy declined at 34-35 and was just not the same after that. Still good but there is less in the tank. Chara same, Pavelski, same. All elite players. So just go with it, worry later is BS. You play the hand you were dealt, so I'll see your B.S. and raise you S.B., it's his job to do. Maybe he can stack the deck. Just stirring the pot T, no news on Drai yet. Be nice to have some clarity.

I was hoping for a little less, but if he could have got 14+ elsewhere it is a discount. It's just speculation at the moment, so we wait until we know for sure. I really hope it's done before September.

I do agree with some on here that think the big 4 eating up half of the cap is going to be a problem. That’s way too much of the cap. 13.5 is not a discount that really helps the team. He could get more elsewhere but it would not be on a present cup contending team as they don’t have the cap space. It is what it is but in my opinion it’s going to cripple us with the 4 guys getting paid that much.

I honestly think that we need all 4 for under 40% of the cap in order to have enough quality players to keep competing. So for this up coming season they would need to be less then 36,200,000. This season Darnell 9,250,000 Mcdavid 12,500,000 Drai. 8,500,000 Bouc. 3,900,000 Total is 34,150,000 Whatever the cap goes up for next season would need to be the amount of the increase in cap at most of any of their contracts to remain competitive imo |

Yes, and of the players u mentioned only Ryan is moveable in my eyes. Kulak maybe, but that leaves us weak on LD so can't see that. Leon, Bouch, Eks, SS all are not going anywhere for a long time imo unless Stu $hits the bed this season, he may not last, but he'll be just fine. And a hard NO to deplete our cupboards anymore, they are bare enough and I suspect we may be calling on the farm team plenty enough this season as is.

Really unfortunate about Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, both were killed by a drunk driver the night before their sister's wedding. Condolences to their family. Goes to show how quickly things can chance. Know this isn't Oilers news but man brings back memories of young Ben, Cave, Moss. Little reflection instead of worrying so much about our guys contracts...

Windsor, I understand your reasoning behind this, but you are setting yourself up for a massive disappointment. If Draisaitl settles for the 12 mil ballpark, that would be a huge hometown discount from everything we are hearing. Bouchard will be next and getting him under 10 mil will be considered a win for the Oilers. Lastly McDavid will be next year and no way will he take a pay cut, nor would I expect him to. McDavid will have a raise over his present salary and I'd be surprised if we could get him as low as 13 mil. I expect mcDavid to be in the 14 mil area and that would be a hometown discount. HH said it was too quiet. So ruffling some feathers and also believe this is what is best. Skinner went from 9 mil to 3, expect the same from our guys.  hahahahaaaa...Mission accomplished. Skinner taking the ol' Kucherov Discount!!

He's been at a deep discount for years though. I really don't have a feel of how this is going to go, but I'm sticking to my prediction. $13.8 x 8

This year it is the Reinhart contract at 8.6, Stammer getting less once you hit 34, our very own Perry aside from Chicago playing for league minimum or 1 mil the past few years after 33-34, both franchise or top star players. I agree pay Drai 14 while in his prime, at 38 to pay him 14 when there is a decline is absurd. Which is why 11.4 was thrown on the table. Maybe Drai will do a 4-5 year deal. If a max term deal you need to give the club some protection. But no one looks at this. We are not signing Drai (or McD) at 25-26 years old here. As their contracts kick in they will be 30 so let's mix it up. Paying too much for your top 3-4 guys as the bulk of them increase in age especially, detrimental to your team if you want to win cups. Sharpie seems to agree. You cannot and should not pay 50% of your cap to 4 guys. In our case it's over that. Only one team has won a cup in forever using this model. So as we go all in and try to win cups, this seems to be the goal. Then you need to leave some meat on the table for others. Not just rice noodles. If our guys go for the max money, bring back the Haas and Rattie type players. This is what is going to happen.
