If drai is still scoring close to 100pts a season when he's 38 I'll be happy to pay him $14M as that will be the going rate or more for a 100pt guy in 2032 or whenever Yep, pretty sure he'll take a pay cut too at that point in time if he wants to keep playing as he'll have made like 200 mil by then. Like, how much does a fella really need?! Spose we'll cross that bridge in another decade with Leon! If Connor's still here, he will. However, if we dont win a cup in next 4-5yrs, i doubt either will stay, but i'm guessing by that time, Connor will bail before Drai! btw a slight erratum, Crosby deal was 2 yrs x 8.7

It's a lot more complicated then them just saying they want out, if they were to, this is where you exist the bus in free agency. Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, have remained with their original teams, even with the down turn in their franchises.

Sid and gino started to win cups so that changed their perspective, Ovi was where he wanted to be in a big, tax free, US City and Washington was knocking on the door the whole time he was there right up to winning the cup. I'm just saying that I believe McD will re-sign, but if he doesn't like the team trajectory in 3-4 yrs after signing, and they havent won a cup by then, he may pull the plug. If they win in next 3-4 years I believe they'll stay till the end of their contracts just like the guys you just mentioned.

I don't think he would pull the plug, he knows how hard the NHL is and I believe he'll take his lumps, like he has in the Chiarelli era. That's the whole reason why they brought in Jeff Jackson. (Also, The Capitals don't play in Washington State, they play in DC, which isn't even in a state, it's a District.)

Wonder who gets his job now or is Bill Scott gonna run solo as AGM? I'm guessing JJ/SB will be looking to hire someone else. Maybe one of 'Stan's guys'?

I could easily be wrong, but i thought i read somewhere recently that the caps were one of the teams that have the advantage of the tax-free break? Although I'm going purely from addled memory and too lazy to look it up?

I'm presuming he got 5yrs to win a cup just like KH did?

DC has a higher tax rate than Alberta at 10.75% which is the third highest state tax in the US but a number of players live in Maryland or Virginia (their practice facility is in Virginia) which both have lower state tax rates 5.75%.

Although I'm going purely from addled memory and too lazy to look it up? Washington State is a tax break state, DC isn't. I think that's the confusion. Fair enough, I did say i could well be wrong on that but I still think Ovi's position with caps differs a lot from a scenario where McD may consider leaving half way though his hypothetical new contract if things start to go south here in 3-4 years. I just dont see why he'd put up with wasting his entire career here without a cup if he feels he has better chance elsewhere and i think if he hasn't won a cup by time he's 31-32, he might start to look around at who has best chance of cementing his immortality and getting him the ring he so desperately craves? Again, I dont know the guy or how he thinks and i'd be dead impressed if he does end up staying with us his whole career, but I think it will require a cup for that to happen. let's just hope we win one soon so it doesnt become a real topic?

It's not the same as Vegas at all, Kane isn't going on LTIR. Oilers aren't spending to the cap. Also don't think, Kane will comeback Game 1, he'll probably get back February or March.

Kane isn't going on LTIR yet. Using his salary to be as close to full cap for season start is the idea. After, who knows.
