Watched the highlights this morn. Looked pretty good to me. Plenty of chances for, and Rodrigue had a good game as well despite allowing the early goal in which he was totally screened. Podkolzin had a strong game, Philp looked good, and a great goal from our new youngster O'Reilly. Felt great to watch hockey highlights again, pre-season or not, hockey's back!

Just watched the highlights from the split-squad games vs the Flames - eeks, not very pretty. The road game was just downright fugly, Huberdeau and Zary amongst several others looked really good for the Flames. Their tenders played quite well in both games, especially Cooley, unlike ours, none of our guys looked overly sharp but hey that's what these games are for. The home game was better and we had ample great chances but their goalies stood tall. McDavid was humming, his goal, and assist on Hyman's goal were dandy plays. Lavoie was all over the highlights in a good way. 12GA last night - Where's the D?! lol. 3/8 pre-season games down. I suspect we should see skinner between the pipes soon for a game. Stay healthy boyzzz!

The away game, heard Gleason was the standout. Dineen the game before.
Philp like him, he should be up to replace Ryan at some point. Gleason looks like our 1st call up should we need a LH D, he does play right as well
Lavoie outplaying Pod/Savoie so far

Wow, about 1:16 in after being down 2-0, McD speaks out, went to game 3 and was not much better. Sadly. So much fire. McD/Drai/Bouch will be at their cheapest this final year, still some holes but one thing that has not been mentioned is our combined 3.6 mil for BOTH Skinner and Picks. That's really low to expect ultimate results. Will tune into the Prime video, not exclusive to the Oilers though.

It did not sound like he was overly impressed with the final product. I'm not sure these hype videos really grow the game anyway do they? Nice to see the passion though, as if we didn't already know it was there.

Nice to see the passion though, as if we didn't already know it was there. I'm not sure I'll watch the whole thing but episodes 5-6 sound like they may well be worth a watch, although it might open old wounds as well I've no idea if it will grow the game but definitely can't hurt. It seems like controversy is what people want to see more than raw emotion and I'm not sure how much controversy will be "exposed" in these episodes. i like the insights though. that single clip of McD in the above episode was very cool to watch as i often wonder if he does get visibly angry with the team and obviously he does. Good for him, people need an absolute kick in the pants every once in a while

Lots of casuals hopped on board with Full Swing about golfers on the PGA Tour as well. No sport has more robotic players than our l'il specials so it sure can't hurt.

I agree, hockey players seem to be the most "white bread" of all sports athletes, conditioned from a very early age to give formulaic answers to every reporters questions. I got more out of that 15 sec clip of McD yelling than all of his 1000's of interviews prior? and Kudos to him for rolling with it even though he's obviously very uncomfortable in spotlight? I think its very curious though that they chose Nylander on the leafs rather than AM? I wonder if he declined to be on it?? He seems like such an obvious choice being the "face of american hockey players" and being capt of the leafs??

Watched most of tonight's game, skinner and arvidson still struggling to find chemistry with either of the dynamic duo imo? I liked the play on the back end by gleason and stecher for most part, although Stecher makes some dumb moves at times, but also distributes the puck really well too. if he could just clean his act up a little, he looked to be a decent pairing with kulak. IDK about skinner's form atm though, he's looked pretty rusty in the 2 outings ive seen him? Drai's SO slapper was pretty funny though, so not all bad considering our strong line up barely eeked out a win over nucks B-team

IDK about skinner's form atm though, he's looked pretty rusty in the 2 outings ive seen him? Drai's SO slapper was pretty funny though, so not all bad considering our strong line up barely eeked out a win over nucks B-team The only things I've watched are the highlights after the games. Skinner the goalie looked actually very good to me from the clips, the first goal from the Canucks PP was an across crease pass that Skinner almost made the save. At normal speed it looked like Skinner was cleanly beat, but slow motion showed Skinner actually came all the way over from the other side of the net and got in position with his glove up to make the save, but the shot was was high top shelf. Had Skinner made that save it would have been a highlight reel save, as it was it was a highlight reel goal. The next goal was a deflection in front of the net that you could not blame Skinner for, it was just a nice tip in front. I've never been a raw raw Skinner fan because he was thrust into the situation and has done his best for a young goalie in the NHL, but he's struggled. He's had his up's and his down's but over all he's been decent to good and sometimes very good. His problem has been that he's still being developed and he's still not the finished product yet, this is a good thing because he does appear to still be getting better. His whole hockey career has shown this same trend, starting slow, getting better, slowly rises to the top. He's done it at every level and it looks like he's still doing it in the NHL. If you ask me one of his biggest problems has been his mobility from one post to the other, to me he used to seem just a millisecond too slow. Watching that near save, I call it that because he was actually in position to make that save, that gives me great hope because it looks to me like he has improved in that area. Post to post saves are huge and if he can continue to get into position like that, many of the future shots like that will be saves. Seeing Skinner play like that calms my nerves a lot because it shows he can do it where as before it was close but no cigar. If he can improve his stats this year it will be huge for the Oilers going into the playoffs. Now that I think about it, it would also be huge for Canada in the Four Nations and then the Olympics.

I didn't get any good vibes from him, can't really put my finger on it, but it seemed kind of like a negative attitude coming from him.

I'm a bit surprised that Hoffman couldn't make a better impression Didn't think he really even had a chance of making this team. I said this in another post, a complete waste of a PTO just like virtanen was. It makes me wonder if our "pre-selection" process for a PTO is: you wanna tryout? sure! Maybe next year I'll give it a go
