Watched most of tonight's game, skinner and arvidson still struggling to find chemistry with either of the dynamic duo imo? I liked the play on the back end by gleason and stecher for most part, although Stecher makes some dumb moves at times, but also distributes the puck really well too. if he could just clean his act up a little, he looked to be a decent pairing with kulak. IDK about skinner's form atm though, he's looked pretty rusty in the 2 outings ive seen him? Drai's SO slapper was pretty funny though, so not all bad considering our strong line up barely eeked out a win over nucks B-team The only things I've watched are the highlights after the games. Skinner the goalie looked actually very good to me from the clips, the first goal from the Canucks PP was an across crease pass that Skinner almost made the save. At normal speed it looked like Skinner was cleanly beat, but slow motion showed Skinner actually came all the way over from the other side of the net and got in position with his glove up to make the save, but the shot was was high top shelf. Had Skinner made that save it would have been a highlight reel save, as it was it was a highlight reel goal. The next goal was a deflection in front of the net that you could not blame Skinner for, it was just a nice tip in front. I've never been a raw raw Skinner fan because he was thrust into the situation and has done his best for a young goalie in the NHL, but he's struggled. He's had his up's and his down's but over all he's been decent to good and sometimes very good. His problem has been that he's still being developed and he's still not the finished product yet, this is a good thing because he does appear to still be getting better. His whole hockey career has shown this same trend, starting slow, getting better, slowly rises to the top. He's done it at every level and it looks like he's still doing it in the NHL. If you ask me one of his biggest problems has been his mobility from one post to the other, to me he used to seem just a millisecond too slow. Watching that near save, I call it that because he was actually in position to make that save, that gives me great hope because it looks to me like he has improved in that area. Post to post saves are huge and if he can continue to get into position like that, many of the future shots like that will be saves. Seeing Skinner play like that calms my nerves a lot because it shows he can do it where as before it was close but no cigar. If he can improve his stats this year it will be huge for the Oilers going into the playoffs. Now that I think about it, it would also be huge for Canada in the Four Nations and then the Olympics. I'm still high on skinner being our #1 G for the next 6-10 years and I didn't blame him for either goal, it was just his overall handling and positioning etc? You are right though, he seems to start slow then come on strong. hopefully he ramps up quick though as the new season is about to start and I dont want to get into a "soup" situation where we have to outscore our tending and score 5-6 per night as much fun as that is sometimes . I'm low key confident he'll get it together quickly though and no, i'm definitely not comparing him to Sooup

Then of course we will have to sign our improved goalie to a larger contract, the wheel keeps turnin'.

He's got the skills and attitude.

This in from Puckpedia, news that the Edmonton Oilers have put veteran d-men Ben Gleason and Phil Kemp, forward Lane Pederson and goalie Colin Delia on waivers. Article content
Forward James Hamblin has also been sent to the AHL, reports Daniel Nugent-Bowman of the Athletic.

Didn't think he really even had a chance of making this team. I said this in another post, a complete waste of a PTO just like virtanen was. It makes me wonder if our "pre-selection" process for a PTO is: you wanna tryout? sure! Maybe next year I'll give it a go There's no such thing as a waste of a PTO. It's a you still want to play, and we need a guy so we don't have to play our contracted guys.

A weak mental attitude is what killed soup but I do not see that at all in Stu!

I hope that another 2-9 start is not in the cards. I will become a feeble old man, being spoon-fed oatmeal and pooping in a bedpan.

Just preseason but edgy. We didn't allow 6 goals this time, only 4 and we don't have J Brown to blame last night either.

I was planning to watch as many pre-season games as I could, never watched any, only highlights. I mighta watched our first game, can't remember, bad memory haha. Met the love of my life and she's been taking up all my time which is fabulous, so that's new! Ready to get the real season started! Most everyone seems healthy on our team so that's good. Let's get this party started! GOG!! ...bronco, your turn for this year's GDT, make it a good one!

Brown's been put on Waivers, he hasnt looked that great and i'm glad the new regime wasn't married to him just because he has a 3x1M deal sewn up? he should buy his agent a real nice dinner for that one! It loooks like Caggiula, lavoie and Rodrigue joined him while Philp has been sent to the AHL. My guess/hope is he could well see some NHL time sooner than later. IDK if waiving Brown helps the cap situation down the road but it cant hurt and franky,he just hasnt deserved a spot over Emberson, Dermott or Stecher even though neither of those guys actually stood out IMO? hopefully they pick it up soon or we are going to have to start season scoring 5+ goals game to win! ah good times

x.com/SportsnetSpec/status/1843337156556927052Skinner down to the 3rd line, Janmark up, little bit of shake and bake already. I think Skinner should be playing with McD but anyways. It appears the Oilers have not made any waiver claims and we have another 45 minutes to see if any of our players got claimed.

Again, i dont mind this move, its basically saying to skinner to wake the f up,we're not gifting you Drai's wing, you have to earn it? Maybe there's a reason skinner's never made the playoffs?? I'm not expecting any real surprises on the waiver today, there are far better players than the ones oilers gave up so i dont think our players get picked and i'm not sure there's anything there thats worth the oilers picking?

Dammit. I said that yesterday and Toley laughed me off saying it will never happen. I knew it was going to happen.

I'm not, second consecutive year he hasn't made this team. There's a fair chance he'll go back on waivers when Vegas is done with him.
