Day off today and the fish were hungry! Personal best for sturgeon as far as numbers go, not size however. No big girls but 20 sturg and 2 suckas in just over 4 hrs of fishing. Non-stop woohoo!! Between buddy and I almost 40 sturgeon landed. Right time, right place I guess. Super Fun!! I LOVE FISHING!! Sounds like a great day of fishing. I’ve never caught a sturgeon but think I’m going to give er a go one of these days. That’s a busy day on the water no matter what your catching. Went fishing this afternoon on the oldman just on the other side of Macleod. I was gonna go early in the morning but got stuck working till 11. Gotta hate when work gets in the way of fishing. Well actually when I’m gets in the way of pretty well everything. It was burning hot temperature wise, definitely not the fishing. I caught 3 rainbows but they were all about 8 inches long lol. Still have lots of strength in the arms so I’m heading out at 6 am to try to catch them before the heat puts me to sleep. I will report back with the results. Hopefully better then today!

Thanks sharptooth! It has been a lot of fun. The 23", 4 pound Brown trout on my birthday was really special to me. We've been fishing southern Alberta rivers and lakes since the late 1970s, but have really been kicking serious butt for the last 3 seasons. I've found a lipless crankbait in a Gold Fire Tiger pattern that is catching us Northern Pike, Walleye, Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. It's a "knock-off" of a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap lure from Bass Pro Shops that costs only $2.49/each. With my buddies 70 hp jet boat, we seldom lose any lures to snags. Usually, we just move upstream of the snag, and voila, we get our lures back.
There is always room in his 18 foot ex-Alberta Fisheries boat for a 3rd person if anyone is interested. happyhappy, are you in?

I will subscribe to your YouTube channel as well

sharptooth, Watch "The Magic Crankbait" on my channel. Every fish caught in that video was on the same lure.

How not to handle fish 101. Eh 420, lol. Real men touch fish, on purpose. Gonna get my hands wet this week, can't wait, going through fishing withdrawal. Nice catches 420!

Hey Happs, hope all is well! Where are you going? I went out to the St. Mary’s reservoir last week but it kept freezing just a little layer that kept cutting my line. Not one bite lol.

Sorry Sharpie just seen this. Hmm if the ice is cutting your line might wanna check your line especially if its's a few yrs or more old, shouldn't break that easily unless maybe if you're using super duper light line...seems odd? Sadly I haven't hit the hard ice yet, things just keep coming up that take priority. Every week I make a plan and every week it gets kyboshed lol. Was hoping for this Sunday but the wind is looking nasty and like a true procrastinator I still have a little shopping to finish up so I already see that plan deteriorating quickly unless mother nature eases up on the breeze then there is still a chance! Not a fan of fishing in 50km winds, tent or not, as I do not own a shack. If not then, then the 27th for sure lol. As for whereabouts I will probably go for trouties in the Cypress Hills at either Reesor lake (which now has Tiger trout that I need to check off my Bucket list) or Spruce Coulee if the road is open. Both incredibly beautiful scenic lakes with decent trout fishing as far as stocked lakes go. Be safe out there, plenty lakes still with thin ice, some even with open water! Tight Lines!

I was fishing from shore as there was open water after I threw some rocks in to break it lol, but it started to freeze back over very quickly over my line. Pulling in from shore the ice was slicing and dicing my line lol. I will fish in almost any conditions besides the fn wind. Hopefully you find time to get out!
