Sorry Sharpie just seen this. Hmm if the ice is cutting your line might wanna check your line especially if its's a few yrs or more old, shouldn't break that easily unless maybe if you're using super duper light line...seems odd? Sadly I haven't hit the hard ice yet, things just keep coming up that take priority. Every week I make a plan and every week it gets kyboshed lol. Was hoping for this Sunday but the wind is looking nasty and like a true procrastinator I still have a little shopping to finish up so I already see that plan deteriorating quickly unless mother nature eases up on the breeze then there is still a chance! Not a fan of fishing in 50km winds, tent or not, as I do not own a shack. If not then, then the 27th for sure lol. As for whereabouts I will probably go for trouties in the Cypress Hills at either Reesor lake (which now has Tiger trout that I need to check off my Bucket list) or Spruce Coulee if the road is open. Both incredibly beautiful scenic lakes with decent trout fishing as far as stocked lakes go. Be safe out there, plenty lakes still with thin ice, some even with open water! Tight Lines! I was fishing from shore as there was open water after I threw some rocks in to break it lol, but it started to freeze back over very quickly over my line. Pulling in from shore the ice was slicing and dicing my line lol. I will fish in almost any conditions besides the fn wind. Hopefully you find time to get out! Oh, haha I was assuming you were ice fishing lol. Um yup that'll do it, hopefully you didn't lose a bunch of lures! Agreed I too will fish in most conditions but brutal winds is just not fun. I'll get out one of these days...will post when I do. Hopefully your next trip goes better buddy!

Not sure what that's about. I posted it on YouTube, 4 different FB groups, 2 NHL sites, and Alberta Outdoorsmen. All seem to work fine.

I caught a Lake Trout in the Bow River for only the second time in over 40 years. Lots of Rainbow Trout and a couple of Brown Trout were caught and released.

Thanks Happy! If you make it up to Calgary in the next 9 months, there will be garlic sausage waiting for you. We're hoping you might guide us to some sturgeon next year. There's always room for a third in the jet boat.

Fish Onnnnnnnn..... The mighty SSR as well as most closed lakes in AB all open on the 8th, in one hour (mst) from now. Looks like the rain is a coming but meh, got the rods ready, hooks sharp, bait is squirming around in the fridge, and junior is resting peacefully. Can't wait to wake early and drown some worms in the river and catch many fish in the morning with my best friend.. my boy. Good luck to all fisherfolk heading out for opening day tomorrow! Tight Lines all! #myzen

Just finished a 5 day canoe trip with a pal on the oh so beautiful South Saskatchewan River... camping, fishing, exploring. Nature is my drug. "The Tug is the Drug" actually, any fisherperson would/should understand that. 140 river km paddled, battling all kinds of weather, now feeling like Popeye! Bug bites, cuts, scratches, slivers, blisters to all limbs and digits, sunburn, sunstroke, lack of sleep, fatigue. No sprains or breaks! Love it and wouldn't have it any other way. Can't wait to do it next year, we're thinking 7 days next time. Girlfriend jokes it sounds like a vacation in hell lol, I call it nothing but awesomeness hehe. I landed 44 fish in total. 15 sturgeon, 10 walleye, 5 goldeye, 1 huge pike lost at shore but I'm counting it haha (lesson here is put a strong leader on at night, I was looking for a burbot atm), 1 chub, 2 clams, and 10 suckers. My largest sturg was around 40" (nowhere near my PB yrs back of 67" x 30" girth) but I'll never catch a fish like that again in the SSR I reckon. Anywho, we only measure the monsters. Caught several over 3ft and at that stage they all fight like champs so I got my fill of battle. All fish caught were released on this trip. Late night and early morn fishing on the SSR is a thing of beauty. My buddy was around half count of feesh landed, but I stayed up late and got up early everyday, he was complete opposite. That said, he landed the largest sturgeon of the trip at 54". It was the largest sturg of our trip and a beauty. Wildlife... actually thought we'd see more. But we did see (aside from 70 fish) 1 swimming bullsnake (expected more as I search for snakes everywhere I go), 3 wild chickens so it seemed lol, couple dozen bald eagles, plenty falcons, hawks, waterfowl, birds...I'm A bird watcher so I won't bore y'all with that but WOW I was in my element again. Probably seen 4 dozen beavers and a few muskrats. Ample deer but not in herds, mostly rogue wanderers, much more spooked then those around town. That said, 1/2 our trip was through a military base so these animals get their fair share of bangs and booms. In fact, one sign we read as we stopped due to weather clearly stated "No Trespassing, There are Bombs Here and They Can Kill You"! HAHA. No word of a lie, needless to say we did not proceed beyond that sign. Only got out of the boat there bc of storm anyway but crazy sign to see right there on the bank.. Exhausting and glad to be home but I'd do it all over again next week if I could afford the time off work haha. Tight Lines folks!

Due to work and weather, we did not get out fishing until 2.5 months into the season.
The "Fishing Gods" were very kind to us, we caught and released 39 Walleye and Northern Pike in 10 hours.
Please WATCH, LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE.
It will help me out immensely.

Real men where Pink! I took junior and his buddy fishing yesterday just to the riv. We only managed 7 between the 3 of us, walters, suckers, and a goldeye. The smiles on kid's faces when they catch a fish makes you really appreciate the small things in life. Priceless memories. Life preservers only work when you are wearing them. I come in peace. Tight lines my friend. I'll be up in Calgary later this week, perhaps I'll drop you a line if you are around?
