Please do give me a call if you're in Calgary later this week. Do you still have my number? yep, still have it. My son and I may come up on weekend. If so will let you know. We'd be staying in the South with my sis, near FishPark.

We were drawn for 2 Walleye tags (Class B 43 - 50cm). Both tags were filled, but 17 of the 21 fish that we caught and released were Northern Pike. It was a cloudy and very calm day, so the audio was much better than usual.

Regarding the hat, Australian cannabis activists wore them to mock the police and one was mailed to me years ago. It has since worn out so I found someone who would embroider POLITE on hats for $20.00. I can get you one for your next trip to Calgary, just say the word.

Haha, I had a similar release last week with a tiger trout. It was only my 2nd tiger ever and was a healthy fat 18" so I wanted a pic with it. Got her to shore and into the net, picked her up for a quick pic and while I went for a nice "fish pic pose" the damn fish started flopping like a fish outta water hah and right over my shoulder and back into the water and gone lol. Pretty embarrassing, glad only my sister was around to witness haha. Blooper! Re the hat... yes please! I can e-transfer you first if you would like. Send me a PM with your info and I'll send you some $ plus a little extra for your efforts. I can pick it up next time I'm in Calgary or have my sis pick it up sometime as she's in the South too. Cheers.

Public shout out to 420! Already got me the hat I requested, thanks a bunch again 420, can't wait to get up to Cowtown to meet ya and pick it up. You da man!
Got out to the lake again this past week with my boy for a few days. Let's just say he is not a first light fisherman lol, so I left him snoozing and I was on the water by 630 fri-sun. Buddy came out and met me Fri and go figure we got skunked with many bait thieves having us shaking our heads. Sat morn I went solo and after trying various ways to hook these trout I finally figured them out. The key for me was slicing shiners in half (they were big) and using just the Fogolin2 end and most importantly holding my rod as opposed to sticking it in a holder and waiting for the bell to jingle. These trout were too smart and would just pick me off time after time doing that, so holding the rod was key. They would take a nibble and give me a slight warning, then always come back and hit again moments later. I had to be sharp. I landed ten trout over the two mornings. 5 Tigers, 5 Rainbows. All fish between 12-14" guessing, as well as two Tigers pushing 19" measured. Tigers are brutes and kinda fight like bulls. The Bows easily the most acrobatic of the trout species. Both beautiful species and fun to fish for. However the fish landed were just a bonus. Between the calm of the lake, the eagles, pelicans, squirrels, chipmunks, deer, frogs, rising fish, giant dragonflies munching skeeters all around me keeping me entertained, the sunrise. I was in my happy place. I left satisfied. Nature is my drug and I'm addicted. Hope everyone is enjoying these last dog days of August and having a good summer. Tight lines!

Pin Wheel Lures invited us on an all expenses paid Lake Trout fishing trip to Cold Lake, Alberta in exchange for us videoing the adventure. We caught and released 37 Lake Trout, 4 of them over 30". Only two were caught on bait, all the rest were hooked and landed using Pin Wheel Lures. These lures are designed to work like cut-bait herring, The Blue, White, Silver/Black, and Spotted Frog colours all caught fish.

One of our nicest days of fishing ever. +30 Celsius with almost no wind. On average, we caught and released almost 4 fish every hour.

We drove up to Lesser Slave Lake to sell the "gator boat" and took it out fishing for one last time. We caught and released about a dozen Northern Pike and Walleye. We lost 5 large fish that sawed off our line halfway to the boat and one huge fish stripped off every foot of line from my reel. If we ever return, we will be using steel leaders and heavier line than the 8 & 10 lb. test that we normally use.

Fished some new terrain this summer. Couple buddies and myself made our way to the Ram Falls area south of Nordegg and spent the better part of a week fishing around there. Beautiful area and surprisingly minimal crowds, until we neared the weekend anyway. Managed to catch my personal best Cuttie on the fly at 18.5" out of the North Ram river on a large stonefly nymph. I got the trembles just typing that haha, let me tell ya it was a rush. I was just praying she stayed on and I was able to get her to the net after a great battle, woo-hoo! Another day we stopped along a tributary of the North Ram just to have a quick bite and we noticed a couple fish in the water beside us in the creek. Obviously we had to pop a line in there and they instantly took our hooks. Well, we had to fish this creek now! 35 cutthroat for me and near a hundred for the group, we decided to call it an afternoon a few hours later and hiked out to the road and walked back to the truck. I'm sure had we fished that creek all day I would have easily had my first 100 fish day lol, none bigger then 10" that we found though. Nonetheless, a blast indeed! We also hiked down to the bottom of the South Ram Falls our final day out there and fished the pools. Caught some nice fish down there and pretty much had the place to ourselves., incredible scenery. Wish we had more time but the rain came and we were forced to get out of there. Foolishly we never backtracked to where we descended and decided to try and take a "fast route" up the steep shale cliff. What a mistake. As the rain came down my heart pounded harder and harder as I clung to the side of the cliff with all my gear and scurried my way up. Felt like it took forever and was scary as hell. Lesson learned, never again, just dumb lol. Anywho those were a few highlights of our trip, it was awesome. We spent much time roaming the woods looking for wild mushrooms and whatever else we could find, ample ample fishing and hiking. Everyone we ran into was super kind and I think I've found a new area to explore for the next few years as the I've done the Crowsnest area for the last ten or so years and have been looking for a new area to explore. Bit of a jaunt from the Hat but well worth it. We bought FOESA (Friends of the Eastern Slopes Association) memberships that are good for a year and this gives you free camping at any any of their campgrounds, I think there are about ten. We stayed at Peppers Lake for the most part and ventured out from there. Also did a couple nights on Crown Land where you need to purchase a diff card/license that allows you to camp on certain land for a year, also 30 bucks. Lotsa spots we coulda stopped and stayed that we found and now that I know the area better it's all noted for future trips. Man I love fishing, not for the fish, but for where it takes me.

Just hoping the fireban is off by the time we go.

Ahhh 420 watching you two fish for Jacks always brings a smile to my face and this video was extra funny haha. Glad your partner Jim finally held a fish at the end there my goodness is he terrified to hold em er what lol, fishy handshake too funny haha. Freakjaw fish looked like he maybe had a lure ripped through his lip previously to create that lump! Nice looking walleye in there. Looks like you guys had a great time, awesome! I just got back from fishing the Bow just south of Calgary for a couple days. That river will humble a fella fly-fishing from shore I tell ya. Managed a couple rainbows and a small brown. Lost a few. Love exploring that river valley, don't get to do it as much as I'd like. Off to Cypress Hills for the long weekend on Friday to chase the Tigers and Rainbows to cap off the summer. It's been a good one! Glad you're still out there showing them feesh whose boss 420! Tight lines!

Thanks Happy! Ya, Jim just doesn't like holding any live fish, especially Pike, LOL Glad to hear that you went fishing on the Bow River. It can be a challenge, but there's so much to see (Ospreys, Eagles, Pelicans, etc.). Good luck with the Tiger Trout!

Southern Alberta is experiencing a severe drought due to temperatures up to 37C. All of the lakes have water levels as much as 5 feet lower than normal. We still managed to catch & release 16 Walleye and Northern Pike in 7 hours.
