Southern Alberta is experiencing a severe drought due to temperatures up to 37C. All of the lakes have water levels as much as 5 feet lower than normal. We still managed to catch & release 16 Walleye and Northern Pike in 7 hours. rivers.alberta.ca/Yep it's been really bad. Here is a great site to check water levels throughout the province though you probably are aware of it, I use it often. St.Mary's reservoir is at 2% capacity and was at 3.8% for quite some time. They ran it dry waaay too early. Bow River has not been this low since 1911. South Sask around here I have never seen so low, I don't think it's peak this yr even hit the lowest average annual levels, just brutal. List goes on and on...

Ya, tough times for water levels. Calgary has had it's lowest rainfall since 2002. I'm praying for heavy snow falls this upcoming winter.

It was +32C, not a cloud in the sky, with next to no wind. Despite the heat, we were able to catch and release a dozen Walleye and Northern Pike. I caught my personal best Northern Pike (8 pounds).

2 weeks and the SSR opens. I can barely wait! Lots of smarties out there fishing already during No Fishing time. 250$ per person u will get paid if u see peeps fishing the SSR before MAy 8th and they get caught. I'm taking my pooch for a walk tomorrow to my holes tomorrow, if I see fackers there, I may make a call. My dog is a sHitzu though so I don't have a lot of back-up. Report to RAP. Up at 430, line in water by 6, what a fabulous day to be on the water. Spent the morn and early afternoon fishing the riv with some buddies. Fairly slow but plenty sturgeon to go around, in fact that was the only species caught aside from a big fat sucker I hooked. My first catch of the year was a chunky healthy sturg around 42-44" so that was fun! Not a monster but a great start to the season. The weather and scenery was fantastic and I can't wait to get back out there Monday. The tug is the drug! Tight lines all!

I havn't done that much river fishing, but when I did I loved the scenery and the peaceful tranquility. Kind of like when I go canoeing, when you're on the water it's so peaceful and beautiful and then fun when you get into a little whitewater. Brings back a lot of good memories.

I'm a catch and release fella, mostly bc I don't like freshwater fish. Sturgeon are endangered anywho and they must go back in the water. Fully agree it's about the experience, just getting outside in nature and enjoying mama nature's scenery. Catching fish is a bonus. Speaking of scenery... it was pretty funny, a Mom and daughter showed up around 8 and fished the rest of the morn beside us, (48 and 25, I enquired ). They were both cute, especially mom, smoking hot in fact. Anyway, my rod was farthest from them so I got to watch all the boyzzz drool over them with their heads turned the rest of the day. Pretty funny. Boys will be boys. The ladies got fed well and got a lot of free tips and gear let's just say lol. Back at er tomorrow. Gonna be a tired fella but it's always worth it! FISH ON!!
