That will be a financial challenge. Yammy, McLeod and JP need raises ( not large ones as of today's play) but Turris, Mikko and Russell's contracts will be off the books so who knows. I don't think Yammo is getting qualified, let alone a raise. Click bait

It'll be interesting as to see how Evander is received in tonight's game.

Kane looking good so far.
When we first signed him in this thread we discussed the cap hit. Looks like cap friendly did make the correction and the net 970k salary was correct. Not a bad salary for over half the games to play plus the playoffs

Not a bad salary for over half the games to play plus the playoffs Saturday's game might be interesting for Kane too. I'm sure there are grudges and chirps to be settled there still. Glad Buff no longer plays for Jets and hoping the Jets are the ones to hit the showers early

Not a bad salary for over half the games to play plus the playoffs I doubt there is a better valued contract in the whole of the NHL currently. Kane has played his part in the Oilers recent recovery in more ways than one, and seems to be behaving himself so far. I am sure that both Connor and Leon are happy to see him on their left wing rather than some of the dross that have played there over the years. It is a no lose situation bringing in Kane.

I agree fellas, Kane's been great and costs next to nothing (for now), what's not to like about that! 9GP: 4G, 4A, +8, 33 shots, 38 hits. Excellent numbers there. With the addition of Evander and Finding Nemo we've added some much needed physicality to the team and opponents best keep their heads up when these guys are on the ice. Loving what I've seen of Kane so far, he's a well rounded player for sure.

Agreed happy, but you forgot to mention the punch on the nose he delivered to Brendan Lemieux which not only left Lemieux flat on the ice, but more or less took him out of the rest of the game. Well worth the 2 minute penalty, although I have seen Oiler players punched in a similar way during a scrum, and the ref's turn a blind eye!

I never liked Evander Kane. I never thought I would want him on the Oilers. I just didn't trust his personality, he seemed like a toxic element that you just don't want in your dressing room. This mental picture I had of Kane is because of the way he handled himself when he was younger and because of the how the media presented it. While it is possible for people to change especially as they mature, I did not believe Kane was one that could change for the better. I thought he was a spoiled young millionaire with little mature guidance on how to properly behave.
I now believe that he is exactly what we need, and no one is more surprised than myself. I now believe that he was probably a young millionaire that said more than he should have on a whim without realizing the consequences. I now believe he is now much more aware of the consequences because he has seen what the media is capable of doing with a few offhand remarks that were said in the spur of the moment.
In his press conference in San Jose, at least one reporter was trying to bait him to say something that they could use for headlines in the next sports highlight show. You could see that Kane now knows the media is not his friend. One reporter stood out as someone Kane did not trust or respect at all. It makes me think that maybe Kane has changed and the media is not giving him the benefit of doubt.
Kane the hockey player is fitting in perfectly with the Oilers. The Oilers being primarily a talented bunch of offensive threats, that focus more on offensive side of things and are lacking the gritty physicality that needs to be there to give them room to do their thing. Kane does that and so much more. Kane is fast, offensively talented himself with a physical side to boot. Most importantly Kane is viewed as an unpredictable element that could snap at any time. This is what keeps opponents on edge around him, never knowing if this might be the time he snaps. The fact that that he can keep himself right on that line is what I am loving about him. He seems very aware of just how much to push and when to stop while still giving opponents the crazy eyed stare to keep them off balance. It appears to me he has learned a lot from his misadventures with the media. He seems to me to want to put the foolishness behind him and contribute in a positive way to his new team. He seems to have figured out how to use his bad rep to his and our benefit.
I find myself hoping he will resign with the Oilers in the off season. He could very well end up being one of my favorite players if things continue the way they are going.

I re watched the punch multiple time as initially I thought Lemieux was diving. Kane actually smoked him a good one! Lemieux was definitely not diving.

If having a young child to look after doesn't change your priorities, I'm not sure what will? A lot of the "allegations" came from his ex-wife who lost custody so that is very telling. The Vax stuff; although falsifying his vax record was stupid, he wont be the first or last to be hesitant taking it, but evidently he has now and i think the crossing border was more of a misunderstanding than anything else? There's no doubt he was a self-centred Jerk earlier in his career as are quite a few "star" players when they get their first multi-million dollar contract, but some/most grow out of it and learn from it. I hope Kane has learned his lessons and does what's best for his Daughter, and that is to become a kick-Fogolin2 power forward for the oilers so that they reward him with a new, bigger contract. Atm, he's looking like he deserves one and I hope his good play continues, but there will likely be around him until the day he retires. If he keeps up his great play, is willing to take a "discount" and a 2-3 year contract, then I'd be happy for him to re-sign but a lot can happen between now and end of season. Until then, i'll cheer for him as loudly as any other Oiler

Kane has been awesome with the Oil so far, he brings not only talent but that ingredient of toughness and the opposition is not quite sure of him at times as far as "going off". The only q I have is his commitment to the Oil. This is just my take on this. But why is it he doesn't wear the Oilers sweatshirt or workout stuff during the interviews after games. Once again just my observations He has been awesome.

Somebody who is planning on leaving after a few months of the season wouldn't do this, especially somebody in Kane's financial situation. They'd rent instead.

Thanks, and glad to hear that. Living out here in Vancouver after so many years in Edmonton I don't get to hear all the good stuff. Oh man if KH can sign him to another longer contract that would be outstanding. He has really brought an element to the Oil that they've missed for so many years. I can almost hear Tkachicken's knees knocking.

Not gonna tell you that I feel bad for the guy. He made choices. Also, I hope he's an Oiler for years to come. Strange situation.

Not gonna tell you that I feel bad for the guy. He made choices. Also, I hope he's an Oiler for years to come. Strange situation. It's a very tough situation and without knowing all the exact details, it's impossible to really say what he does and doesn't deserve? As purely an oilers fan, I see a guy who's come in, fitted in really well, played excellently and I'd love to see him here next year. The other stuff he's been "accused of", most has not been substantiated and those that have been, are what most would consider minor indiscretions, but I'm not privy to what info/facts/evidence sharks have that they feel "justified" in reneging on a contract. I'd imagine the PA has more than a vested interest in this as it will undoubtedly set the benchmark for what is and isnt "cause" for contract termination. If that "cause" is set too low, imagine the number of GM's lining up to try and rid themselves of players who no longer "live up" to their contracts? In the NHL that would cover over half the players IMO!!

"He is working out great, we better extend him" San Jose Sharks, 2018
He has worked out great for the Oilers, should probably quit while they are ahead and invest their cap money elsewhere in the offseason before he turns into the problem he has been with his previous teams.

Did you say that about Kassian? People change.
