Yeah I'm not sure on Akey. I read in a comments section that he wasn't expected to play but no reason was given. Pretty sure he's there so if he is injured hopefully it's minor and he see's the next two games. Also, as a last resort if you can't find the games anywhere else I believe the Canix and Flamers are streaming the games on their websites for free, unlike Oilers+ pffft. Youtube usually has them though too as Toley mentioned. Unfortunately I'll be missing all the games but will watch the highlights for sure. Yaaaay Hockey!!

Well... ummm... the good news is our young tenders only allowed 7 goals in 3 games... not too shabby!
Well... ummm... the bad news is our entire squad only scored 1 goal in those 3 games... no comment, ugh.!
Akey on D missed the entire tourney due to injury, that's a bummer.
So that's that. Not a great showing for the young blood. I won't lose sleep over it but was hoping like most to see maybe a a couple guys stand out. Not so much. Kudos to our goalies though.

It sounds like none of the forwards warrant a look at training camp except the kid trying to beat the snot out of everyone? Not too worried as i think its a sign our team's at a different "life cycle"? it wasnt too long ago we used to crush these comps but the big team always ended up with a lottery pick?

its been a Very weird pre-season so far for the oil. it's almost like we have no one at all to try and showcase if they're good enough for primetime and It's starting to seem like none of the "Vet" prospects deserve much of look with the 1st team after 3 blowout losses in a row? I guess that's to be expected when you push all the chips in to try and win a cup, but I didn't think we were quite this barren and bereft of talent in the lower echelons of the organisation? I even wonder what coach knobby can glean from such mismatches as last night as its hard for anyone to shine when you're getting caved shift after shift? The light sprinkling of 2nd and 3rd tier vets didnt seem to do much to stem the tide and Stu's confidence wont be great after getting shelled like that either? Not trying to stir things up but i'm starting to get a better understanding of why Bro and hollywood may have felt this is not the best place to try and make the NHL dream happen, since if you're not already a regular "inked" into the line-up, the org is going to default to vets every time, just because we are in that "cup or bust" mode. The only way i see a "rookie" getting 1st team mins is if there's a rash of injuries. saying that, i hope that doesn't happen, because although are 1st team line up can probably go toe to toe with anyone, the talent looks like it drops off a cliff right after.

Peg iced like 15 NHL regulars last night so not surprised with the result but I hear ya on a few notes doc. Maybe not the best idea to put Skinner in there but I read he may have wanted to play that game maybe for that reason, he knew he'd be busy. I dunno. It's pre-season so meh either way but 6 GA is never encouraging. I have not watched the highlights yet. Read coach plans for most our big boys to play 3-4 pre-season games (not our norm) this year so expect to see a much more NHL line-up in our remaining 4 games. I think most the youngsters would know there is little to no room on the big club atm but injuries and call-ups happen, as well as trades, and that's what they are playing for now should they not make the team outta camp. Honestly, I see our 4th line starting the season with no surprises - Pod/Ryan/Perry. I'm really rooting for Philp though. Same on D, I see no surprises just a matter of Emb and Stetcher and who plays 2nd/3rd pairing with J.Brown being our 7th. Despite the scores in these games a few of our young D have impressed to my eye, unlike the forwards aside from Lavoie who I heard is banged up now but it's minor. I'd like to see Savoie make some noise at camp. Lotsa goals in these games! Unfortunately most are for the competition, doh! Stay healthy boyzzz, that's really all that matters, 4 games left.

Yup HH, I definitely dont want to read too much into pre-season scores (although they are a bit ugly) but it sounds like some of the guys like Emberson J.Brown stecher etc who were supposed to cement or vie for a spot, have not exactly stood out (I'm not sure if stecher has had much ice time tbh as I havent heard his name either) ? Philp does sound like hes been a bit of a light in a dark tunnel as has Hoefenmayer whose logged a lot of mins on D but hasn't had his +- crushed yet (I'm kinda guessing here based on his stats page as I cant say I've watched him directly except in the highlights). It just seems that unlike most years where there's always some guy raising eyebrows to give us hope for the future, this year it almost seems like we're better off just icing the 25 most likely to be in the line up on game one and letting them get some good practices in?? I thought savoie, lavoie, petrov might be the ones to raise some eybrows, but i believe petrov is already sent down and Akey always gets injured before the dance even begins?? Slim pickings indeed?

I think Emberson is in the lead atm for 2RD. At first I thought Stetcher due to his xp but everything I read about Emberson is that his #s were actually quite positive and encouraging while playing on a sh!t SJ team. And though I said above J.Brown will be our 7th gotta wonder if we signed him for 3 yrs then one would think the plan for him would to be to play on the big club and not watch from the press box. Interesting to see how it all shakes out. Also, Kulak not to be lost in the mix, gotta see who fits with him best and not only Nurse. I was a bit surprised to see Emberson on Frank's "top 10 ready to become breakout stars in 24/25" list here. Hope he's right! www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/10-nhlers-ready-to-become-breakout-stars-in-2024-25

It kinda sucks from the "rookies' pov as they wont get as much of a chance to shine on the big stage? but it feels to me that few of them are even close to being ready for a pre-season tilt nvm a full on reg season game? so maybe they are better served by being sent down early?

Do any of you guys remember how Ethan De Jong became a Bakersfield player? He was invited to camp as a camp invite for the junior players camp along with a handful other invites to add some bodies because the Oilers didn't have enough prospects for a good camp. He was kept around and eventually went to Bakersfield after his junior year was over and made the team for some games at the end. De Jong was at camp this year on a PTO to try out for the big club, he didn't make it but he was sent down to Bakersfield where he is signed to play this year. Not bad for a junior camp invite, normally players like that are just fillers and rarely are able to grab a chance like that. Maybe it goes no where, but I'll bet De Jong is very happy with the way things have worked out for him so far.

oilersnation.com/news/gdb-5-0-edmonton-oilers-take-on-seattle-kraken-for-preseason-matchup-at-rogers-place-7pm-mt-oilersSo the lines posted are just from practice and by no means set in stone for tonight's game. That said, looks like our top line and pairing get another game here, as well Picks likely gets the start. After that, only a few other regulars in the line-up. Good to see Lavoie back as he was meant to play Weds but had a minor injury. If I can find the game I may have to watch this one as I'm really craving some Oilers hockey pre-season or not and I have a free night and have yet to watch a game. I expect another handful of cuts after this one as camp is winding down, last week! Who will get the last looks?!

Missed the game against the Kraken, caught the highlights. Argh, Pickard goes down and leaves the game halfway through the first. Rodrigue finished the game. I'm thinking/hoping it was just a precautionary measure to not have Picks return and that he'll be fine but man he got smoked by Philp. That's the bad news. We can ill afford an injury in net. The good news is we finally scored some goals haha, and several were beauties. My boy Nuge -sniper! Standout player seemed to be Ryan, he had a heck of a game making sweet passes. Lavoie scored himself a hard work game winning goal which was great to see, he's having a strong camp. Philp another strong game, what a goal, and an awesome pass from Eks! Be well Calvin. 3 games left...
